My 9 mth old dd has been cranky all weekend - a bit hot and bothered and crying much more than usual. As she has just cut her two bottom teeth assumed it was teething. However today she has two little blistery spots on her thumb and one on her leg. Have booked a doctors appointment for this afternoon. She seems a lot better today funnily enough. Is this how c pox starts? (It is going around her nursery so might just be paranoid!)

my two had CP at 8 months old and their spots started on their face and head (in their hair)....i could be wrong but i think thats 'usually' where they start. best to get it checked out though. once they start they do break out very quickly, i.e. mine had 3 spots when i fetched them for nursery, by bedtime face covered.....

Looks like it could be, but obviously you need to wait and see what the doc's say. If its going around then I would say more than likely. The bit that makes me think it is cp, other than spots is the fact she has been cranky for 2 days then come out in spots because they say they are contagious 2 days before spots comes out and are the most miserable in that time.

If it turns out she has got cp dose her up with piriton if she can have that? AND smother her in calamine.

My dd2 started on her face too.

thanks Meeely - will check her hair once she wakes up from her nap.

little blisters on her thumb and legs could well be Hand foot and mouth, quite similar to chickenpox, smaller blisters tho,
check her mouth for little ulcers

there is h f and m going round nursery as\well. She now has lots of red spots all over her legs. Still bright as a button - glad we are going ti docs though.

Soubds like h, f &m to me. DS had it just before christmas and was miserable.

littleboo · 24/09/2007 13:24

h f and m, can also appear on other parts of the body not just those in the name, mainly nappy area.
my ds2 had it a while ago now, seem ed to lose interest in eating and drinking, cried a lot and then on checking found all these little ulcers which were obviously very sore.
Nothing you can do as virral, but calpol, cold things to eat and drink, lollies etc.....but can be quite nasty for some children.

thanks everyone - off to the docs now - will let you all know!

'unspecified viral infection' - def not cp could be h,f and m. Don't you hate it when the doctor makes you feel you are making a fuss about nothing?

bizziebee, i'm sure they don't mean to make you feel like that, the important thing is your dd is ok, just keep checking her, let us know if anything develops
