Pain on right hand side. Anyone know what this could be?

Just wondering if anyone else has had this. For about 7 years or so I’ve been getting pain periodically on the right hand side of my body. Just under my ribs. The pain can be so intense it can take my breathe away and stop me in my tracks. Very sharp, like someone has just stabbed me with a knife. When I get these attacks, it usually lasts about a minute then it will go away like nothing happened. Sometimes I would go months without these pains then will just come out the blue?

I get my kidney and liver checked regularly via blood test and they seem fine. I’ve mentioned this to my gp in the past, but was told it’s just a pulled muscle? Can this last for years?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thank you for your response @anywinewilldonow. Just googled it. It’s not in the chest area. It’s located roughly in this area, maybe slightly higher up, and slightly further round right under the ribs

Maybe wind pain? There is a large bend in the colon up under the ribs on each side, where wind can get trapped. My DS gets pain there regularly although it is more of an ache and goes round to his back, and he has had all the tests under the sun (ultrasound, MRI, endoscopy, colonoscopy, blood tests) and nothing was found. He was left with a diagnosis of functional pain, which basically means something which can't be identified by any tests, such as muscular pain, wind/IBS paIn or just heightened pain sensitivity.

GP should probably send you for an ultrasound to rule out gallstones, although your pain doesn't sound typical for that.

Maybe? I have thought about that, but it’s very direct, literally like someone has stabbed me with a knife and I can’t move. It makes me want to cry sometimes as the pain can be so bad. It doesn’t radiate anywhere else

One thing I have noticed, could be a coincidence as it doesn’t happen all the time, but if I drink too much alcohol I can have an attack
