Hi, just back from holiday in Spain and DD still has a very bad nappy rash (she is 15 months). Been giving lots of nappy off time but she is also cutting molars on the bottom. Sudocrem & Bepanthan not working that well. Just wondering if there is anything doctor could give on prescription to clear it up any quicker? Or any other ideas? It has been red and sore for almost 2 weeks now.

oh thanks people

no, havnt done the chammomile thing - keep meaning to get some. is it the tea bags i want? i have cammomile ointment and have used that. doesnt work either. tho is nice and soothing.

ruby - what a good idea! (whata doofis for not thinking of it!)

i didnt know thrush could get flakey. oh dear, that ties in doesnt it? have noted the red clover and hot washing occasionally too. have just done this with most of them actually just to give them a freshen.

would canesten really not do any harm if it isnt thrush? i'll try it if im sure...

and will research the eggwhites cure ...

will have a look too at hemp cream.

thank you all for your support. ds3's bum thanks you too

nappies - canestan would be fine anyway, not harm

metanium cream worked brilliantly for DS

yes you need to soak the liners in the chamomile and also use the chamomile water to wipe ds' bum instead of wipes.

My dd2 had awful nappy rash - she seemed to have an allergic reaction to disposables and we had her in washables which helped.

The best preventative I found (and I tried a LOT) was Better Botty Barrier which is beeswax/olive oil based and really really good. It wasn't so good as a cure but really helped stopping it coming up in the first place.

Chamomile and silk liners were my best things for getting rid of it. We had trouble with many creams as I am allergic to Lanolin and so couldnt put the several of them on, brought my hands and arms out in hives! And I was worried I would sensitise her to them too. So we stuck to the 'natural' remedies and they were very good. But afaik she never had thrush.

thanks for that link harrisey - will get that stuff and try it out.

we just came back from the doc and he said he didnt think there was any sign of anything fungal... (of course, sods law says that hes looking much better on the day the doc looks at him ) but there was a bit... anyway, he gave me hydrocortisone cream as he thinks it looks more dermatitis-like. will use v sparingly though as i dont really like the idea of steroid creams...
