Hi my ds (9) has suffered from asthma for a few years and is on medication. I usually know the signs of an attack with him as it's heralded by coughing.
At the moment though and only at night he's got a really tight throat and struggles to breathe. I've got him breathing into a paper bag and have given him extra puffs of his blue ventalin.
I don't know whether this is another manifestion of his asthma or something completely unrelated. It's had this 2 nights in a row now.
He seems fine during the day.
Anyone got any advice ?ideas? thanks

if he has asthma and can't beathe at night - i would say its asthma.

does he have a preventer?

i think you should see a nurse about an asthma check on his medication.

paper bag doesn't help IMO/E

coffee aleviates the closure o the passages - rather caffeine.

humidifier / boil kettle in his room?

He does have a preventor which he takes twice a day and another which is stronger if his symptoms worsen.
I use the paper bag because I remember when i was teaching that it was very usful when calming childfen down, stops them hyperventilating.
I guess I will have to take him back to the athma nurse.

God I wish he would start to grow out of this, poor mite.
I got him to blow into his tube thing, sorry I can't remember the name, that thing they blow into to test the strength of their lungs... it was 190 which is ok i think?

peak flow meter i think 190 sounds low - but i am no expert.

with a bad chest i get 300 - on a good day i get nearer 500

maybe its worth a google to see ?

if not phone NHS direct
