Pain after cannula removed (pic)

Hello,

I had a cannula removed from the back of my hand yesterday, it stung when they flushed it through with the medication as I expected but today it has gotten redder and it's really sore!

I can't touch it without it hurting (I sound like a big baby) but what's worrying me is that most of the pain is when I move my little finger, also it hurts near my wrist bone I guess I'm just wondering if this is normal and will wear off over time? Is the redness normal? It just feels like my hands been slammed in a car door.

I had one just above my wrist which hurt when it was in, I'm sure it was hitting my wrist bone, and it bruised quite badly and was tender for at least a week. If it's hot to touch then I'd worry about infection but otherwise it's probably just bruising.

@emmathedilemma ouch that sounds painful and uncomfortable, they aren't the nicest things are they!

Mine was put in the mid/upper hand and no where near my wrist so I'm unsure why it hurts the most there.
This pic just under the wrist bone is slightly warmer and feels tighter and is the most red part, I will apply some cream and if it gets any redder or hotter I will call someone, there's no swelling so that's a good sign I hope.

Thankyou for taking the time to reply.

I think I would want that checked, it looks very red, and especially if you say it is hot to touch. I have removed many cannula in my time and they should look like that.

Yes i agree. I've removed a load of cannula and they dont look like that. I'd call your GP tomorrow and see what they say.
