My baby is 8 days old and has those symptoms. Would chemist say to just bathe in boiled water? It looks horrible bless her!

Are you breastfeeding? Squirt some in her eye (honestly!) Or express some and drop it in.

Yes, I've tried that with breast milk, and cleaned it with boiled water too. Might be worth chacking with your midwife if it looks very sore. You are not discharged yet presumably.

third the breastmilk thing

Actually, I think they always like to check sticky eye in newborns, the doctor wanted to see us, it's mostly a blocked duct but if it is infected it needs treating. Can you check with the Saturday clinic or phone your midwife?

Thankyou! Walk In Centre told us that unless she had been suffering with it for at least 3 days, they would like to avoid drops and see if her immune system will get rid of it.

She projectile vommited today also and ive just been so paranoid about her health all day!

She is only 8 days old but causing me so much worry already.

Thanks for tip about breast milk!

Oh, it's such a worry when they're new isn't it. I felt like I barely breathed for the first few weeks with all three of mine. Do go back if it doesn't clear up though, sometimes they can pick an infection up at birth and will need drops.

My Lo had recurrent sticky eyes as a tiny baby and in the end I bought a box of saline drops to use for convenience. It seemed to clear quicker. You can use them as nasal drops when they have a cold too. Hope it improves soon.

my dd is 15 weeks when mw was coming same happened to dd she only had over night she rang gp that day said she needed drops, as its probley from birth, since then had 3 more times and she still gets drops

msappropriate · 23/09/2007 10:57

My baby had it for at least 4 weeks, breast milk didn't clear it up nor did cooled boiled water. It was almsot like snot coming out of his eye! I got antibiotic drops from gp. Only prescribed for a few days and it went and 7 months later it has not returned

fizzbuzz · 23/09/2007 11:42

my dd had this.

Dpoctor said it would clear itself and it did eventually, although I found brolene drops helpful (over counter) Attacks got less and less as dd got older, but it would flair up after a crying jag.

Dd now 14 months and never gets it anymore. HTH
