12 year old adolescent idiopathic scoliosis

I was wondering if anyone has had recent treatment for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis? I noticed that my 12 year old daughter's hip was higher than the other. Her shoulder blade also sticks out and when she bends over she has an s-shaped curve with the worse curve in the lumbar region. It does seem quite bad and we're waiting to be seen in Alder Hey.

Hi op ,
whilst I cannot help re: treatment , and have no direct experience of this problem , I wonder if you have seen this sort of information about AIS ( idiopathic scoliosis ) , ( which actually means they have no idea what has caused it . )
Low vitamin D levels are often associated with it . Have a look at this research .... it may be of interest. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30322242/

It seems to me , that by ensuring your daughter has adequate vit D levels , you will not be harming her in any way .... but may be providing great benefit. Vit D might not cure , but it might prevent worsening.
IF she has not had a Vit D blood test , then you can get a private test , at this NHS lab, www.vitamindtest.org.uk/ they charge £29 , if not doctor ordered. You would be looking for a blood level above 100 nmol/L , to ensure she has sufficient in her system. Very often in the UK , levels as low as 50 nmol/ L as accepted as suitable , that is at the very bottom of the range . 50 to 200 nmol/l is often quoted as acceptable.
Daily, long term, supplement of about 25 microgram to 50 microgram ( 1000 IU to 2000 IU ) should get the average weight 12 year old childs' blood level to above 100 nmol/L. The dose required depends upon weight , and an individuals response. A re-test after 3 months continuous daily supplementation is a good idea, to check the level achieved.

I just thought this might be of interest to you. Best of luck

              BTBH.

I have experience! Vitamin D hmmmm.... probably not an issue.
DD is 23 and was diagnosed at 17 with a 40 degree curve. It was hard to spot because her hips and shoulders are level thanks to a compensating curve the other way. Another x Ray at 20 showed little
Progression and she's due another in September. She sees a spinal specialist she trusts. Make sure you see someone whose special
Interest is scoliosis.
At a young age you may want to consider VBT Which can be carried out privately abroad. There are a couple
Of reputable FB groups who are v informative. My DD could still
Have the adult version but we're waiting and seeing
Keep moving and keep fit and strong is my main advice. You can go down the bracing route but we did and it was so upsetting g as to be mentally damaging. Many people tho have success. It's a huge research process and an emotional rollercoaster.
I'd love it if DD didn't ever need surgery. She is finally becoming happy with her body. And pain seems minimal.
