Any dentists here? Broken crown advice

I had a temporary crown fitted before lockdown and it has just broken. I think I've swallowed most of it so not enough salvaged to reattach it. It's an upper pre-molar and now the small stump of prepped tooth is all that remains.
I know this isn't an urgent case so I wont be seen, although dreading having to wait until maybe August to have it fixed. Any advice from anyone on how to manage this meantime?
I'm assuming gently brush and salt water rinses, dont feel like I can eat on that side or anything but hoping that will pass and I dont need to eat only on one side of my mouth for the foreseeable.
Really just keen to see if anyone has any other advice or tips?
I will call my dentist in the morning. Thanks

Call your dentist to see if they are opening on the 8 June as that is when face to face patient care can start. Failing that ask if they can refer you to a dental hub.

I know what you are going through. During lockdown I broke a tooth on my left side and my crown on the right side came away (still have it though). Whilst neither cause me pain I have been eating a soft diet since beginning of April as I didn't want to risk an infection or toothache as I didn't know when dental care would resume. I am that desperate I'm am considering cosmetic dentistry to get my teeth sorted out so this never happens again.

I'm going to ring my dentist on tomorrow as they were going to have a meeting over the weekend to work out when they are going to open and I pray it'll get sorted soon.

Once it is all sorted I never want to eat mashed potato, scrambled egg or soup again.

Is it painful OP? Do you know if the tooth is root filled?

LittleLadysMama · 31/05/2020 22:19

Hi @Mrsmorton it's not painful as such, occasional strange sensations going up the side of my nose?! more uncomfortable and tender than anything and I can tell I'm speaking slightly differently because of how if feels 🤷‍♀️ the tooth was root treated about 6 years ago and having it crowned now as the tooth had discolour badly.

I think all you can do is keep it super clean. Hopefully the toot filling is sealed off well so you shouldn't need to worry about infection. Have you given your dentist a call? Depending on how they made the temporary crown, they might be able to make a
New one without you being there. Lots of variables!
