Should I push the gp for a dermatologist appointment?

My 16yo dd has an atypical mole 1cm appx on her collarbone. A couple months ago she said she want it removed. The gp said the nhs will not do it but she can go to a private clinic.
But a few weeks ago I saw she also got a couple smaller ones on her arm and I know she also has one on her scalp. So she has 4 atypical moles. I feel rather paranoid about them though I have not told my dd how I feel. Should I push the gp to give her a dermatologist appointment or should we just go to a private clinic? What would you do? I feel she should have all her moles checked and get her into a routine check from now on. My side of the family isn’t that molely but my dh is. Another worry is if the scars may look bad especially the one on her scalp! Please........

Most scrupulous private clinics will not do anything till she is 18. Do the moles look healthy? If so, leave them.

Right now, the only referrals GPs are allowed to make are for suspected cancer, so if the GP has looked at the mole and is satisfied there is nothing wrong, they cannot refer.

Also, nobody gets a ‘routine check’ for moles on the NHS. If people were entitled to a regular, periodic check of all their moles, GPs would have no time to do anything else. The vast majority of the 65 million people in this country have moles. They’re entirely normal.

We all have an individual responsibility to monitor our own moles, and seek medical attention if there are suspicious changes.

Why are they atypical?
I've got moles all over of various sizes and heights and none have ever been deemed a problem-I had one checked a few years back because it was bleeding, and the dermatologist said he'd check all while I was there and he said I had none he was concerned about.

What do you mean by atypical?

The fact that she has 4 of them should reassure you. You would be very unlucky to get 4 melanomas simultaneously
