Really worried I have cancer but GP said that I Hitoshi wait until restrictions are lifted

I might just have health anxiety...but...

I have had constipation and faecal impact ion for years.

I'm worried that I have bowel or ovarian cancer.

It's been really really bad since December.

I have pain in my left lower back and left hip and upper buttons. I have discomfort in my abdomen on the left side - under the rib and in my groin.

I cannot do a 'number 2' unless I take so many laxatives to allow it to come out like water Confused otherwise it won't come out. I can feel a blockage . So I'm regularly taking 8-10 movicol with 2 dulcolax and 4 magnesium citrate just to get any thing out.

My stomach is frequently swollen to look 7-8 months pregnant. I've taken photos to show the GP.

My appetite is terrible. I can only manage one small meal a day. I'm loosing weight. But not a lot because I'm so stressed by this And so tired I'm eating sweets and drinking cider.

The back pain is becoming more and more severe.

My previous GP, last December was taking it seriously and had requested some blood tests. I never had them done because I moved house (quite suddenly).

Had a phone consultation with new GP. He said that it is highly unlikely that my back pain is related to my abdominal/bowel problems and has sent me a pilates workout to do to strengthen my core muscles. The thing is, I can do the plank for 2 minutes!!! I know the back pIn is liked to the stomach problems.

He said, do the exercises and when restrictions are lifted I can see them about my stomach/ bowel issues then.....who knows when that will be?!

I looked up the cost of a private colonoscopy and it's nearly £2k. I can't afford it.

I'm worried that I'm going to be one of the statistics who die due to undiagnosed cancer to save the NHS.

This could be health anxiety. But I feel so ill

So many issues to unpick here. Sorry you are in pain. I would suggest that you start looking after yourself properly and then see where you are.
3 small, well balanced meals a day. Reasonable fibre.
Stop the laxatives - they can cause the pain themselves. It sounds like you are addicted to them.
Stop the drinking and sweets - neither will help your bowels.
Give it a few weeks of the clean living and then see where you are.

blackcat86 · 25/05/2020 06:08

Has IBS been considered? Dh has similar symptoms (sometimes constipated, sometimes diarrhoea) with lower back pain - his rectum was inflamed. You do need to start looking after yourself and then you may start to see a difference. 3 healthy meals a day, no junk or alcohol. My DH will swear that he needs to get junk to help his stomach but his flare ups always come after eating a takeaway which he was able to see more easily eating well the rest of the time. They prebiotics and a low fodmap diet that is more gut friendly. Dh has found an online IBS Facebook group very helpful to.

Can you ask your previous GP to write to the new GP?
Have you been recording your weight loss?
GPs can see you if clinically necessary. Do you feel the telephone consult allowed you to give a clear history?
I needed to consult my GP recently. I spent 15 minutes writing a clear, concise history and sent it by email.
I put my name, dob and nhs number in the header.
The GP rang me back the same day. The consult was easy because it was all written down.

endofthelinefinally · 25/05/2020 06:14

Just to be clear, the email was only about 10 lines! Not 15 minutes worth of reading.

cherrytree63 · 25/05/2020 06:24

I'm sorry you're in pain.
Your symptoms sound a bit like Diverticular disease, when I have a flare up i feel as though there's a red hot poker going right through my pelvis and the back pain is excruciating.
Is there another GP in the surgery that you can talk to?

Tsubasa1 · 25/05/2020 06:32

Suggest to your GP to test for celiac disease and maybe other food allergies. A fodmaps diet can also be helpful as PP suggested. Taking laxatives can cause feacal impaction if overused, so would suggest stop taking them.

FergusSingsTheBlues · 25/05/2020 08:55

Have you tried juicing if you have a juicer? It really gets things going down there

My son has chronic constipation for years

Prunes
Strawberry

And no carbs really sorted him out

But yes you need an appointment

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/05/2020 07:58

I agree with all the above and you desperately need those blood tests.

They will still be on your file waiting to be done so make an appt ASAP.

socialhermit · 29/05/2020 05:01

I'm
I'm really scared and really upset. I have so much pain around my left hip. I have pain in my abdomen....lower left side. The back pain has been so intense .....unbearable at times. My belly is distended. It's been distended for a while.

I cannot have a poo at all....unless I take enough laxatives to make it liquid.

Every single morning I am in intensive pain.

I just want to see a GP

Eat prunes and doing Pilates is not going to cure me. I'm very very scared I have cancer.

It's all on hold until "restrictions are lifted "

I'm not well. I need help......

Don't tell me that GPs are in the same protected species category as teachers. 😬😳😓😓😓😓😓

I actually think that I am going to die. I don't have an underlying health condition, and I'm not scared of
Stupid fucking COVID virus.

I've been so unwell.

Doesn't matter. My life is valueless .

I'm not a parent I need
To be DEAD

If you need some mental health support, try and address that separately from your physical health issues. Can you engage with some of the really good suggestions on this thread? At the very least you can report back to a DR what you have tried

yikesanotherbooboo · 29/05/2020 07:02

I'm sorry that you are feeling desperate. There is help available. Ring your doctor again and explain to receptionist that you are feeling physically and mentally awful and would like to speak to a doctor before the weekend. It is very likely that they have a triage system and somebody will ring you back. GPs are working and dealing with patients but quite rightly are limiting the footfall to the surgery to minimise the spread of cv. Similarly A&E departments are open.
You sound very distressed and it is unclear how much is physical eg if you have always been constipated then a Dr will of course advise you regarding diet. If there has been a change eg distended abdomen then this is potentially significant. Try to convey your symptoms and worries and I am sure you will be listened to.

missbipolar · 29/05/2020 07:31

You need to help yourself, eating sweets and cider when your having stomach problems aren't going to help.

I'd also suggest asking for a referral to the mental health team.

If youd been referred for bloods but never got them done that's not the fault of the dr.

emmathedilemma · 29/05/2020 11:07

I'm afraid I agree with @missbipolar a lot of these issues are probably caused by your diet and overuse of laxatives and I'm sure the first thing a GP will tell you to do is to eat a high fibre diet and drink several litres of water a day. It sounds like your anxiety issues are your biggest priority at the moment, is there a helpline you can ring for support? Samaritans phone no. 116 123 please call them if you can't get through to anyone else.

Mawbags · 29/05/2020 11:14

Eating prunes absolutely gets the guts going. I work with three wheelchair bound people and they all eat the daily to prevent constipation.

sugar and cider will definitely Be making it worse, surely you can see that?

Mawbags · 29/05/2020 11:16

You could have impaction.... could you not go to a and e ?

scaevola · 29/05/2020 11:20

Go back to your GP - is there a different doctor you can 'see'?

Make sure you have a list of your symptoms, and go through the whole list before going into detail of each. So GP cannot mistake what you happened to say first as main reason for consultation - the reason is that you have a number of symptoms which NHS says need to be investigated because they have been going on for more than 3 weeks

Ask explicitly about ruling out ovarian and bowel cancer

Cloudyapples · 29/05/2020 11:21

Op please call the Macmillan cancer support help line for free - they can advise you on your symptoms and what to do

Xylophonics · 29/05/2020 11:49

I went to my gp for bloating (before lockdown) and was referred for a scan , plus had an internal examination.

Am not a medical person but I would say the very least you should have is a scan - and they are now booking people in for scans!

Torvean · 30/05/2020 01:24

You should not need to pass liqued stools. After using them so long your body becomes reliant on them to go.
The pain you have could all be constipation/IBS/Diverticulitis. Or due to the dulcolax.

Ideally you need to see a dietician. However an increase in fibre and lots of fluids get your guts moving naturally.

MissMarks · 30/05/2020 01:37

If it is this bad go and present at a and e

AnotherBoredOne · 30/05/2020 01:54

Can you try a new gp in your new area?

PeskyEdith · 01/06/2020 13:06

OP - please go to A&E. Hardly any patients there at the moment. Sress how much pain you are in.
