Can I stop looking/feeling so old?!

I was 40 in May - but just feel like an old crock! Went to a friend's wedding in the summer and definitely I look the oldest out of the women there, who are all about the same age as me! My eyebrows fell out a few years ago, I have a lot of forehead frown lines and my facial skin has drooped a lot!!

I know this sounds vain, but it is a bit depressing. I suppose I've had a lot of stress over the last few years - domestic violence/alcoholic ex-h destroying my marriage, child with severe SN, moving house and school, new job now which I hate!

Now I work a lot and have little time for myself eg for haircuts or exercise! I don't drink that much at all either and don't smoke. I feel completely exhausted by the end of the day - not surprising really as I do all the childcare and housework on top of working!

Is there any hope or should I apply to that programme 10 Years Younger?!

Seriously, what about a mini face lift, or apply to 10 years younger?

oldcrock · 20/09/2007 08:05

Lol - so serious measures are required!

I am 45 and have a 2 1/2 year old son I once looked quite young until having him now everything has gone south and I'm still overweight and like yourself I've had a lot of stress over the last couple of years so I definitely do not look like a spring chicken and most of my friends are in their 30's, lost their baby weight and look good!!

So I can sympathise with how you are feeling!

Do you use a good moisturiser? If not, start now! It can make a big difference. Something with retinol is very good (but pricey - although worth it, IMO)

Drink lots of water.

And make the time once each 6 or 8 weeks for a good hair cut. It really will help!

get eyebrows professionally waxed ASAP.
Drink Water
Sleep
do facial exercises religiously...
Buy Protect and P serum from boots -- amazing stuff
Exfoliate skin and moisturize loads
Get decent hair cut
Exercise
Lots of Vits and low carb diet - lots of fish

do this for a couple of months and then see how you look and feel I have looked better since I started to di it and am 10 years older than you eyebrows and hair cut are key!

Thanks - having hair cut on Friday, will definitely try some of your ideas - don't have any eyebrows to be waxed though! Must drink more water - hardly drink any, just tea or coffee and juice - does it have to be water?

Hope you dont mind me asking but why have your eyebrows fallen out ?
have you had your thyroid checked ?
Hypothyroidism is very underdiagnosed and a simple blood test can check. It causes hair loss and tiredness ect.Just a thought.

oldcrock · 20/09/2007 15:37

I did wonder this before and GP checked my thyroid a few years ago, it was OK then, but maybe it's worth another visit. Thanks
