Has anyone used Mirtazapine?
I've been prescribed it for insomnia and anxiety.

Interested to understand if it worked and any side effects. Thanks!

I'm on mirtazapine it really helps with sleep, side effects feeling groggy the next morning and weight gain.

It has helped my sleep immensely. I get 8 solid hours a night now - and I'm only groggy for a few minutes in the morning.

But the hunger is incredible. I never felt hunger before, and never understood why people seemed to be so obsessed with food and planning meals. Now I get it, and I need to lose weight for the first time in my life, it's very strange. So plan now to be strict with yourself and your diet.

I’ve been on it since October. It has helped with my anxiety, although not completely. The best thing is that it has helped me to sleep. I now only have maybe one or two sleepless nights every fortnight.

Thanks for coming back to me. I took it for the first time last night and slept for 10 hours! Although I do feel groggy... does the grogginess pass quite quickly? (@Oxyiz I know you said only a couple of mins which is good).

With the weight gain, does this happen because you're hungrier and eat more, or can it happen regardless of whether you're eating more or not?

The grogginess will be worse for the first week or so while you adapt - but you get side effects from all new medications at first. I started it during a holiday and napped a lot.

In my case, I know I've eaten more because it's been a revelation to have an actual appetite. My husband has really loved me being enthusiastic about food for once.

I have read on a comment on here before that for the first six months it can also slow your metabolism too. I don't know if that's true or not though.

Generally if you control your diet you should probably be fine.

Thanks @Oxyiz I've felt slightly spaced for most of the day so far, but understand it's probably due to it being fairly new. I'll see how it goes! It's the first medication I've taken like this before so im a bit nervous!

Yeah I know the feeling, I'm very anxious and have to be fairly desperate to try medication at all. However the worst bit is probably over and you'll get steadily more used to them from here!
