(She's 18 mths, fell about 3/4 ft, couldn't see her actual landing. No unconsciousness, cried hard for about a minute, and then cried until I let her climb back on it She landed on that bouncy car-tyre stuff)

a) keep an eye on her overnight/check she's OK in the morning
b) wake her every two hours through the night (as per NHS online advice) & see if she seems unnaturally sleepy or confused....
c) take her to A&E now just in case

She seems fine - bit grumpy, but then she had a short nap. Not a mark on her

if there is no mark and she seems fine between now and bedtime, i'd just keep an eye on her and see how she is in the morning.

stressteddy · 19/09/2007 18:36

I would watch her through the evening. If she was ok straight away and wanted to get back on then I wouldn't worry too much
Maybe wake her once early on but remember she will be confused at this point anyway as she won't understand why she isn't sleeping anymore
Do hope all is ok and that you have a good night
xx

I have never understood the advice that you should wake a child up to see if they are sleepy.

I'd just watch her carefully to see if she's acting normally.

"I have never understood the advice that you should wake a child up to see if they are sleepy"

You're really waking them to make sure they are just asleep rather than unconscious. If you wake a sleeping 18month old they'll probably scream blue murder or leap up bouncing, never to sleep again. An unconscious one won't, they won't rouse or will be really confused and droopy. I was told to "rouse" DS with meant making sure he was disturbable rather than actually waking him up - once when I went to bed and once more in the night. This was with a definite head injury.

pyjamagirl · 19/09/2007 18:51

just keep an eye on her with 5dc I have had lots of bumped head exp lol
just give her a little tickle every so often during the night to see if she stirs

wheelybug · 19/09/2007 18:51

Same as soupy (actually think you advised me on this probably when dd was same age and took a nose dive from chair into stone patio) - I rouse dd when we go to bed and about once in night (usually can't sleep very well if I know she's had a bad bang). I don't wake her as such, jsut so she moves around and moans a bit.

Hope she's ok.

wheelybug · 19/09/2007 18:52

LOL at pyjamagirl's 'tickle them'. If dd is sleeping v., soundly I usually find sticking my finger in her ear (gently and not too far !) rouses her....

funnypeculiar · 19/09/2007 22:35

Thanks everyone - reassuraed me that I wasn't evil mummy for not rushing her straight to A&E!
She seems fine so far, but I'll make sure to tickle/stick fingers in her ear on the way to bed
