Hi. I have seen this medicine mentioned a lot on this site.

Is it good? Does it help with teething and does it help babies sleep?????

I have both my children teething at the minute and they are not sleeping in the night. It isdriving me and dh mad as we are getting no sleep.

Will this medicine help???

Yes - ask your pharmacist. Contains paracetamol so don't use more than the stated dose or use Calpol at the same time. I think it also contains anti-histamines but do check.

It is basically calpol + an anti-histamine. The anti-histamine is very good at drying up and unstuffing snotty noses, and also has a mild sedative effect. But for teething I would tend to use Nurofen for kids instead (from 6 months) It contains Ibuprofen rather than Paracetomol, so actsas a painkiller and helps calm down the inflamed gums. If it is just teething you will probably find taht your kids will sleep once the pain has gone without the sedative. You shouldn't give Ibuprofen if there is a family history of asthma though.

Medised is sold as a cold remedy - it contains paracetamol and diphenhydramine - an antihistamine which dries up runny noses and clears blocked noses (am reading this off the packet) and aids restful sleep.
Also recomeded for teething pain, sore throat headache, high temperature and colds and flu.

Am currently using it on ds2 who has a cough and cold

noddy5 · 10/10/2004 16:51

I used it with ds a few times for teething and earache and it was v good.Never used it in the day though

Donbean · 10/10/2004 17:07

how do you disguise the taste as it makes my DH gag and having tasted it myself it really is foul. Unfortunately he seems to know when its added to his milk for instance becauase it has such a strong taste, any ideas?

Yes, definitley! I gave ds2 some this morning at 6am and then we all slept in until 10am.

Use it. YOu'll never look back. But it contains paracetamol so don't use with Calpol or anything else containing paracetamol.

Flip · 10/10/2004 17:15

Must add, he's teething and has been up a lot during the night. I didn't just give it him so we could have a lie in. Bad mother me!!!

2wildbabies · 10/10/2004 17:41

i am definately gonna get some tomorrow as the nurofen is no helping either of them.

I used it last night for DD who has a cold with a blocked nose and she slept from 10-6am and then 6am-9am.
She normally wakes twice at night.

Def get it it works.

welshmum · 11/10/2004 12:47

Another vote here for medised. DD normally coughs all night when she gets a runny nose. Slept right through after it and was then well on the mend.
Re the taste of it - the one I've got is strawberry flavoured - are there others?

Marina · 11/10/2004 12:49

I thought it had been withdrawn - can you still get it then? Agree that it is very effective at helping children sleep through uncomfortable colds and teething. Has anyone bought "proper" Medised (not "infant", which I know is still available) recently?

iota · 11/10/2004 12:54

have to say I never thought about there being a difference between Medised and Medised Infant. I use the medised Infant on both my kids - aged 5 and 3 - it gives dosage up to 12 yrs on the packet.
I just assumed it was called Infant as you can give it to small babies?

Marina · 11/10/2004 14:26

There used to be another one, Iota, which could not be used on children under either one or two, not absolutely sure which.
Here's the thread where we discussed what happened to the version for older children.

SoupDragon · 11/10/2004 14:30

The other Medised was for over 2s, Marina. It has indeed vanished.
