If you've any calpol, dose her up, give it 30 mins then try her again. Even if she only has a few sucks, some is better than none.

Just keep trying her on and off, little and often.

the alternative is to try spoon feeding it to her, or maybe try a very milky rice pudding.

Saline drops or a nose sucker thing can help. My 8 month old is the same at the moment and is feeding constantly as he can't gte much at a time. Night times have been awful too. Karvol is good for clearing noses too as well as a steamy room.

Turn shower on and sit in the room with her and let the steam help.

When ds was full of cold and nose bunged up I would give medicine and put on snufflebabe or carvol oil, then give them time to work, then try and feed. DS would usually feed successfully with this method but then coug and bring it all back up. You have my synpathies it's frustrating isn't it!

Try water.

god it's awful thanks for your advice - will keep persevering. she seems to drink water from a beaker with less trouble so should i try with the milk in there??

9 month old ditto cold here (though streamy, rather than totally bunged). Humidifier in bedroom, raised mattress head, Karvol caps - all help a bit. Lots of water is the most important thing, however you get it in - and when she eats, make sure she's getting lots of fruit/veg as its full of water too.

Hope they all get well soon, its horrid seeing them struggle to breathe, is'nt it?

Elibean · 19/09/2007 13:17

forgot to say, no harm in trying milk in beaker, either - but if she wo'nt take it, don't worry: water is more important in the short term, and colds don't usually last long.

thanks guys - it is a rotten experience all round
