after making a few calls it transpires that he should have been refered by the oncologist, his oncologist hasn't seen him since 15th aug and wont be seeing him til at least 2nd oct, so i was told to phone our GP, our GP says sorry but we can only refer terminal people i asked him if he had in fact read Steves notes after much shuffling of paper he said ok i will refer him today.
Does everything have to be a battle, or does it just seem that way to me?

dustystar · 18/09/2007 19:04

Poor you

I hope the referral goes through quickly.

DANCESwithTheMorningOff · 18/09/2007 19:05

at doctor. I'm afraid it seems in the medical world everything is fraught with paperwork and procedures, of course that is the last thing you need now. I'm sure once the Macmillan Nurses arrive they will be able to help you with lots of these things as well as caring for Steve. So sorry getting the care he needs is such an uphill slog

TotalChaos · 18/09/2007 19:06

sorry that the oncologist and GP have cocked up the arrangements so badly. Hopefully you won't have to wait long for your first visit/contact with the nurse.

lisad123 · 18/09/2007 19:10

did you take a kick at GP today on your way out?
Chat to you later.

gibberish · 18/09/2007 19:13

What next? Seems you need to tell them THEIR jobs... like dances says, too much paperwork to get through to provide the real care you need. Did the GP give you a timescale for the Macmillan nurses?

Twiglett · 18/09/2007 19:14

Oh I'm so sorry OJ

onlyjoking9329 · 18/09/2007 19:14

would have given the doctor a good kicking but i got a phone call from school saying DS being sick so i had to go fetch him instead.

onlyjoking9329 · 18/09/2007 19:15

should hear soon, my soon or NHS soon i don't know which one.

OP posts:
gibberish · 18/09/2007 19:22

Okay. Is Steve ok with the idea now?

Greensleeves · 18/09/2007 19:27

fucking hell, talk about rubbing it in

Poor you. Have a ((((hug))) from me. I hope he gets the care he needs without any more cock-ups.

fransmom · 18/09/2007 20:41

thats great, now you should get the support you need to help you with things. that will take a weight off your shoulders

bloody hell though at doc and oncologist oj. i do still think though that a complaint should be put in to the medical council.

coppertop · 18/09/2007 23:00

Can't they get anything right for Steve?

I hope you get some help asap. xxx

ju · 18/09/2007 23:12

OJ it's just effing unbelievable isn't it.

Get your helmet on then you can go bang your head with my permission. Bet you want to bang theirs together bastards

robinpud · 18/09/2007 23:31

Oh, OJ , it beggars belief- I am sure the MacMillan nurses will be just what you need and can kick ass in a medical kind of way to get you and Steve the care you need.

onlyjoking9329 · 18/09/2007 23:48

The whole thing has been like a comedy of errors and whilst i think i do have a sense of humour, this comedy has gone over my head, i am left wondering if i can trust them to get anything right, it is not their life that they are playing with it is my lovely husband who has been with me for 16 years.
it is the father of our three beautiful kids who thankfully are not able to understand what is happening, i feel sad for them that things (their safe world) are going to collapse around them and i can do nothing to save them/us from it

anorak · 19/09/2007 00:59

What a pain on top of everything else. I hope that once they realise you are deserving of this care that its quality will be so good it will make up for this. From all I've heard about mcmillan nurses it should be. Best wishes x

Aitch · 19/09/2007 01:41

och, sorry to hear about this latest runaround. the macmillan nurses, when you finally get one, are sainted creatures. i hope it takes some of the pressure off you, OJ.

onlyjoking9329 · 19/09/2007 08:59

well it can only help really. i think it will lift some of the pressure off all of us, it might be useful for MIL to meet with them too as she keeps on saying that the chemo will be the cure

OP posts:
LilRedWG · 19/09/2007 09:01

Here's hoping they sort it soon (YOUR soon, not NHS). xx

i am sure they will be lovely.
we are still awaiting a phone call for steve to go in the scan simulator, we should have heard last week they said his radio & chemo are due to start next thursday but he needs this scan first.

Saturn74 · 19/09/2007 13:10

OJ, what a tactless comment from the GP.
I hope the wonderful Macmillan nurses will soon swoop in and take some of the pressure off for you all.

Budababe · 19/09/2007 13:16

Crikey - it does really make you wonder about the quality of healthcare these days.

Sorry it is all such a battle OJ - as if you needed more worry.
