ds1 is nearly a year old. he has always been slightly touch sensitive to certain foods (notably tomatoes and eggs)...no problems at all digestively but gets red marks round his mouth when some food with them in touches his skin.

now he seems to be getting it with nearly every meal, and i can't work out the foods it is as it is everything, and foods that previously didn't cause this reaction at all.

he also seems to get it when it isn't a meal time and i'm wondering if paper or cardboard could cause it (he's still putting most things in his mouth).

should i be worried about this? he seems fine with it, and they go after an hour or so.

is it a problem

any help most appreciated.

Milk and tomato based sauces (but strangely not tomatoes) cause this type of reaction in my DD and DS.

did you do anything? did you stop giving those foods, or did you just leave it? did they grow out of it? sorry for all the questions

sure he's not teething -they can produce lots more saliva then which can irritate the skin round their mouths, rather than an allergy?

The tomato sauce doesn't have any other impact on them. They are however, quite dairy intolerant - so we don't give them any dairy now.

DD's intolerance was very obvious - constant vomiting

DS's was more subtle - glue ear, dribbling, constant snotty green gungy nose, lots and lots of ear infections. We finally gave up dairy at about 15months and have never had problems since!

Ds gets this sometimes - I always have piriton syrup handy in case it gets itchy or severe. Sometimes I can identify a cause - for instance he had it recently after eating a piece of chocolate which had been made in a factory that uses nuts, but other times there seems to be no apparent cause. I generally stay away from processed foods and stuff like chicken nuggets as these have casued reactions too. Does your ds actually have hives (raised white lumps) or is it just very red? Hives would suggest an allergy rather than sensitivity in which case you should probably have a word with his gp.
