My eyes water when outside

What could cause this. It looks like I'm going to cry all the time whenever I'm outside!

I had this, a whole year and half. Went back and forth to the opticians and doctors. Was fobbed off with dry eye and was always given eye drops. It would ruin my eye make-up, people would always ask why I was crying etc etc

So I changed my doctors and the new one took me much more serious, referred me to my local eye hospital and I found out I had blocked tear ducts. Had to have a minor outpatient operation where they opened them up and ever since I have no problem since. I wish I could remember the medical term of the condition but I am sure google could help.

Maybe hay fever?

DreamingofSunshine · 13/05/2020 14:10

@GachaBread was it blepharitis?

GachaBread · 13/05/2020 14:19

I can not exactly remember but I know the condition or the procedure was two words, not very helpful but this was some time ago now. The procedure was a little brutal as had too have two injections in each eye while awake but it was all over in 30 minutes. @DreamingofSunshine

It has stopped the watering of the eyes but I do now tend to have more sleep in my eyes when waking in the morning.

I had this. In contrast to a pp, mine did turn out to be dry eyes. Moisturising eye drops sorted it. After buying expensive no-preservative ones for ages on the advice of the optician, it turned out that the cheap with-preservative stuff worked even better for me. I use anything with hypromellose as a main ingredient.

It's usually dry eye - although it can also be blocked tear ducts too.

I'd start off by getting some dry eye drops from the chemist.

Certain conditions like blepharitis can cause dry eye, so you want to have an eye exam at some point, opticians will start to open up fully again in a few weeks (currently we're emergency only).

If it's only recently started happening it could be hayfever. Mind mainly affects my eyes and it feels like I have acid in my eyes.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 14/05/2020 01:12

Hay fever exasperated it but dry eyes caused this for me

After a year of using high strength eye drops multiple times per day, this isn’t an issue for me anymore
