bad posture correction

I have always had slumped shoulders and would love to sit up straight. An ad for a posture corrector has popped up on my laptop and I'm tempted to try it, but I'm afraid it's a big con and I'll be throwing my money away.

It's a kind of harness strap that you put on under your clothes and it forces you to sit straight, until eventually you sit straight even without the harness.

Has anybody ever tried one of these? Did it work? Would appreciate anyone with experience of something like this giving their opinion

I have bought something like this a few years ago, I did find it helpful.

However the main thing that as helped is Pilates and building a strong core. The core is what holds you in and pushes the shoulders back when activated (sorry I am not medical so that's a terrible description).

I also watched a lot of videos on YouTube from The Posture Doctor, a Canadian woman who teaches you good posture for free. If you google her you should find her videos.

I read somewhere the other day that the slightly slumped posture women often adopt is due to the curvature of their spine and the position of their bladders, and that the constant pressure in women to straighten their posture in order to appear taller and slimmer can lead to continence issues in later life. So maybe look into that a bit first. But either way I wouldn't personally be spending my hard earned cash for the privaledge of strapping myself into some kind of movement inhibiting harness! Maybe spend the money instead on some nice new outfits that give the illusion of better posture whilst not leaving you restricted and uncomfortable.
