It’s thrush isn’t it? Or what else could it be?

Well now I’ve managed to avoid the ol’ thrush of the undercarriage for all of my days until now,’when it’s super inconvenient to get caneston!

Before I press go on Amazon; does this sound like thrush to anyone more clued up... I’m on day 4 of an irritating itch at the front of my bits; sort of inside where the outer flaps meet, the itch doesn’t go as far back as the urethra and the only thing that soothes it for a while is sudocrem.

It’s not a rip my skin off itch, but a persistent “hello I’m here” itch.
No unusual discharge or anything but I know that’s not occurrent in all occasions of thrush.

Thanks!!

I should add that you can get thrush without a partner too, but its usually advised for both to be treated, esp if its the 1st time.

Whyismycatanasshat · 05/05/2020 15:18

The nurse thought that as my partner who normally lives with me has been living in his parents farm for the duration of lockdown that the treatment was only required for me.

She asked if I was enjoying the peace... I am!

Sorry to derail, but I'm having exactly the same problem, but I tried canesten last week and it hasn't helped at all. I'm looking at the flucanzole, but someone upthread mentioned getting your partner treated too? Are men treated with the same stuff?

Whyismycatanasshat · 05/05/2020 16:30

@purpleboy absolute horror story isn’t it!

I think the online chemist I’ve bought it from said in their blurb about it, partner to take the same single dose. But I skim read as the nurse said my partner didn’t need it.

Partner should absolutely be treated too, otherwise you’re just passing it between you.

CarrotPuff · 05/05/2020 19:27

Sorry but this sounds like Lichen Sclerosis, especially little white heads under the skin. I've had it for years, treating as thrush, and it never went away, until I got diagnosed properly and got steroid cream.

Missillusioned · 05/05/2020 19:33

Try an anti histamine tablet. That should get rid of the itch.
It might not be thrush - I started to have a reaction to soap, even though I hadn't changed brand and I can't wash the area with it any more, have to use aqueous cream and rinse very thoroughly. Anti histamine helps with that too.

Whyismycatanasshat · 05/05/2020 20:00

@CarrotPuff. The nurse said the spots would likely be more prominent and visible if it was Lichen Sclerosis; I only see them if I erm, invert the skin as if I’m trying to push my thumb through. (She also told me off for dr Googling)

She did tell me to monitor it though as she couldn’t 100% rule anything out over the phone.

I know she worked at the GUM clinic for years before coming here, it’s a busy clinic and serves a wide area so I’d bet she’s seen all sorts so I’m happy to take her advice at the moment.
She also did the best smear test I’ve ever had, and as a victim of abuse I really struggle with my smear.

Ok.

And yes, you do need a very neutral soap, preferably an emollient that is perfume free. I start itching straight away if I use anything else. This is regardless of what you have down there.

Whyismycatanasshat · 05/05/2020 20:35

@CarrotPuff I don’t usually use a soap down there; would you recommend using emollient regardless - is it making a difference for you?

OP posts:
CarrotPuff · 05/05/2020 20:42

Yes, it does make a difference, but that's in comparison to using a perfumed soap. I'm not sure if you only use water. I guess I wouldn't introduce anything new.

Rebelwithallthecause · 05/05/2020 20:48

If you have coconut oil or natural yoghurt put some of that on it until the canesten comes through the post

I also never get the discharge, just a mild itch.
Would be awful if it got worse than that I can imagine

Whyismycatanasshat · 05/05/2020 21:02

@rebelwithallthecause alas none of those in the house; and I very much doubt the weans petit filous will have the same effect.

Op

When I was on the pill I got thrush all the damn time . Came off it and presto! Not had it since .

Friendsofmine · 05/05/2020 21:24

I also often don't get discharge until a couple of days in, by which time I've started treatment now anyway. Careful putting any cream internally!

Whyismycatanasshat · 05/05/2020 22:11

@pawsforawhile once everything dies down I’m going to have a pill review; I’ve not felt the one I’m on at the moment is quite right; I’ve been back on it for 12 months now after having my DD and for the last 4-5 months I’ve not felt right with it.

Ironically I’ve now got thrush... it must be all this sitting around in my activewear Hmm. Thank you to the PP who mentioned you can buy flucanzole online / over the counter. I’m sure I was prescribed that last time so it’s a bit annoying to have paid the prescription charges. Anyway ordered some extra supplies in so I shall be ready for the next inevitable attack down the line.

Whyismycatanasshat · 06/05/2020 13:29

I’m hoping the flucanazole arrives soon!
Caneston has soothed the itch but the soreness is still there; humming away.

Bloody thrush

Why do these things happen during lockdown!

To add another layer of irritation. Grin

Thanks for starting this thread - I'm in the same boat and have ordered some of the pills.

MegnLibbs · 04/06/2024 11:17

Reading about thrush. Don’t laugh but plain Greek yoghurt has all sorts of live bacteria which will negate your thrush. Messy but oh so cold and soothing. Use cremes too but until the Caneston arrives…..
I’m 78yr old and cannot (should not) be sold Caneston so reach for the yoghurt to calm things down!🤪
