Here's the story, it's a bit of a rant, sorry but I need to get it off my chest.

I have a headache. I also have Fibromyalgia. The 2 could be linked. I've had the headache for 4 days now. Both are triggered off by lack of sleep, I haven't had a full nights sleep in a few weeks. The noise from outside is incessant - all the motorbike enthusiats from Hampshire seem to go up and down my street constantly at all hours. People going by - again at sometimes 3/4 o clock in the morning on weeknights as well. If I shut the window I get too hot, soak the bed with sweat(suffer night sweats a lot), and get a headache. Then there is the incessant bloody banging and shouting from next door. I went to bed at 9pm last night, as my head was sore, at 11pm the kids were still running around, thumping up and down the stairs. At least thats what it sounds like, I know its not loud music as they are 5, 7 and 8 it just sounds like someone standing on the stairs thumping their feet. Then from midnight until about 1pm I could hear the mopther screaming at them to go to sleep. This is every night, she seem to ahve no strict bedtime with them. I worry as well that it will waken the DSes.Then I heard the boy crying through the wall at about 4am, then I needed the loo, then DS2 got up, then I finally feel asleep, and then DS1 awoke for the day (5.45|) DH's alarm went off.
I know in the grand scheme of things it's not important, there are people on here with far worse problems than me, but I am shattered, my Fibromyalgia has flared up and I'm sure they are all connected to the not sleeping. So if anyone has any suggestions for things I could try to help me sleep (and stay asleep) that would be great

Earplugs?
I find leaving the bedroom door wide open helps ventilate the room if its getting noisy outside and I have to shut the window.
A cold 'hot water bottle' ?
It sounds as though you are having a miserable time - wish I could help!

bodiddly · 17/09/2007 15:18

I ahve one of those upright fan/air con things. It looks like a heater, DH got it for me when we moved down here, but it's quite noisy

air con unit PLUS ear plugs...

and don't go to bed early however much of a good idea it sounds - it's all about routine!

saltire sorry you're having a hard time of it. I would second earplugs, get them from any chemist. HTH

I think I have a pair of the chepa foam ones - if you cat me your address I'll stick them in the post. I used them on flights and found them very comfortable. Obviously I didn;t use these particular ones! They are new and unused from a BA flight kit!

Is there a travelodge or similar nearby that you could book into for the night?
It might be that just getting one good nights sleep may be enough to break this cycle of disturbed sleep.

there was an article on hypnosis in the free papers last night - you can get a CD on self hypnosos for insomniacs. I kept it for you but forgot to bring it into work today so I'll post the link tonight.
