Topiramate ?

Anyone taken this?

I have chronic, almost daily migraines. I've tried everything and most of the drugs available. Sumatriptan is the best at helping them go, but haven't found a prophylactic yet that works.

I've been suggested Topiramate. I've heard some horror stories about though

Are you taking it? Have taken it? Is it any good? Are the side effects manageable?

I was on topiramate unfortunalty it made my anxiety and depression alot worse so I had to stop taking it.

Alot of people react very differently.

There is a group on facebook called IIH. Toprimate is a medication for this condition as it causes headache and migraines. you may get some answers and help from there

I've taken it for migraines and it really helped but i struggled with the side effects but they were better than the headaches. I took it for around 3 years and my headaches were lots better during that time. I then found that the combined contraceptive pill worked with no side effects so was able to come off it.

My migraines got much worse again over Xmas as they stopped making my pill. I started taking candesartan as suggested by neurologist. I really wasn't expecting it to work but I'm now down from daily migraines to 1 every 2 to 3 weeks and it has no noticeable side effects much better than the topiramate. I'd suggest trying that first if possible. I started on 2mg per day and gradually increased to 8mg. I could have gone up to 16mg or possibly 32mg but found myself light headed at 16mg (it's a bp lowering drug) and the 8mg has a good effect.

Hope you manage to find something that works. Migraines are really awful.

I took it for a while and they did reduce my migraines but I had weird side effects. Felt kind of slow and forgetful and out of it.
Ive actually had a lot of success with vitamin b2 (riboflavin) and magnesium glycinate supplements in high doses. Check with gp first.
There's good research into them both helping with migraine. Riboflavin is suggested in nice guidelines but GPs never suggest it so I did and my gp agreed.
I buy my own supplements.
I get them far less now.

Thanks. I was reluctant to try a no lowering med as I have low no already and don't want to get more dizzy! But I'll look into it, thank you!
