Diarrhea - but how? Haven’t left the house in a week...

Sorry if TMI... I know it’s a bit gross but can someone explain how you get diarrhea?

I’ve woken up feeling awful (like a horrid hangover, but haven’t had a drink for ages), really crampy sore stomach, slight shivers, achey joints, and can’t get off the loo.

I haven’t left the house all week (I work from home) not even for a walk. And the last time I did leave the house it was just a walk around the block. DH is going to the supermarket, DC wait in the car. So we can’t have had that much contact with anything.

Could it be food? I thought it kicks in quickly if food-related? We had oven pizza last night abd it was this morning I felt gross. DH and the DC are all fine.

How come I’ve picked something up? Does anyone know this all works? Please enlighten me whilst I lay in bed feeling sorry for myself that I’m feeling crap on a previous weekend.

You could have coronavirus as that has those symptoms and an incubation period of upto 14 days on average. Which is a risk.

Or oh and child have passed a bug to you....

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 02/05/2020 17:46

Well other than a quick daily walk I have t been anywhere or seen anyone since mid-March - so maybe dh has carried it back home along with the food shop...

One of the DC had a 24hr fever, off food, achey etc 4 weeks ago, with a random lingering cough in the mornings still. But surely that was too long ago and I would’ve had symptoms sooner?

Just seems strange that only I get it and now?

Feel like I’ve been hit by a bus though. Managed some crisps and orange squash earlier but then back to the loo

There have been reports of people not showing symptoms for 24 days though.

CherryStoneTree · 02/05/2020 19:04

Coronovirus, or if you’re still getting mail/parcels or anyone is leaving to go to the shop like your DH then of course you are still exposed to bugs

Carrie7469 · 02/05/2020 19:05

It’s a bit alarmist to suggest Coronavirus. Diarrhoea isn’t a symptom. Much more likely to be food related. I hope you feel better soon

Blueblackrose · 02/05/2020 19:07

Mail, packages, food shopping - all have come from the outside world and hence can have bugs on them.

OwlBasket · 02/05/2020 19:11

Diarrhoea And stomach issues are most definitely symptoms. Not everyone gets them though, there seems to be an enormous variation in the combinations of symptoms people have.

DonLewis · 02/05/2020 19:13

If I eat any kind of pizza, I'm on the loo the next day, just like this. I have no allergies or intolerances but as I get older, I find melted cheese does not agree with my belly.

Hope you're OK and it's just something like that.

ineedaholidaynow · 02/05/2020 19:14

Interesting if it is Coronavirus and OP got it from her DC.

I hope you are feeling better soon OP

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 02/05/2020 19:22

Ah we did have an internet shopping delivery arrive on Thursday...

I thought with food it’s really pretty instant (well a couple of hours)? We had pizza at 7pm last night and I felt rough from 9am. DH and the kids are fine. DH is usually the one to get tummy bugs - my weak spot is throat/ears.

I did wonder of it was relayed to msg..

@DonLewis kill me now if this is the end of my love affair with melted cheese!

Lower back is killing me. Legs are so achey too and head pounding. I’ve slept on and off all day...

Yes it is a symptom @Carrie7469 Hmm

CherryStoneTree · 02/05/2020 20:21

@Carrie7469 sorry yes it is, and for some people that’s the only symptom. That’s why it’s so hard to track and trace.

fronttoback · 02/05/2020 20:29

Food poisoning can take a couple of days to present itself. What did you have to eat Wednesday and Thursday?

succulento · 02/05/2020 22:59

Weird - I had exactly this on Thurs night and all of Friday. Felt nauseated, had the squits, cold and achey and what felt like a dehydration headache.

succulento · 02/05/2020 23:00

Was utterly drained and slept all day.

BlueTuesday20 · 02/05/2020 23:05

It's not weird if you have caught it bc it is pretty contagious and, even though you have stayed home, your Dh is not, and you have only been home a week. Plus your D.C. is sick.

Hope you feel better soon .

PickAChew · 02/05/2020 23:08

It could be food that's disagreed with you, for whatever reason. Maybe the cheese that you didn't realise you were actually a bit intolerant to, the chicken on its date you ate 2 days ago. You might be on the edge of a migraine or having a hormonal event that loosens your bowels.

I get the squits for all sorts of odd reasons, very rarely because I've caught a virus.

PickAChew · 02/05/2020 23:10

I can't eat cheese in anything other than tiny quantities, any more. boak

starrynight19 · 02/05/2020 23:11

My sisters main symptoms were diahorrea and vomiting and she was as tested positive.
This could have been transferred from someone else in your house doing the supermarket shop.

MinesAPintOfTea · 02/05/2020 23:12

At that end, food can be 12-36 hours. For me, dairy takes about 12 hours to cause issues. So don't rule out food, especially if you are premenstrual

kazza446 · 02/05/2020 23:14

Definitely symptoms of Coronavirus. Stay safe, self-isolate for at least 7 days, the rest of your family will need to self isolate for 14 days. Hope you feel better soon.

2bazookas · 02/05/2020 23:33

From the symptoms sounds like you;ve got covid and one of the DC has had it; quite possibly DH and your other DC have either had it too (with no symptoms ) or will soon get it.
Hope you feel better soon.

Aquamarine1029 · 02/05/2020 23:35

Diarrhoea isn’t a symptom

Yes it is. This has been reported many, many times.

ScarfLadysBag · 02/05/2020 23:48

It might well be a symptom but that doesn't mean OP has it! A friend of mine just had a vomiting bug that lasted 48 hours and she hasn't even left the house in weeks 🤷‍♀️ Could be bacterial, could be food-related. Hope you're feeling better soon whatever it is, OP!

jay55 · 02/05/2020 23:53

Food poisoning can be very fast when it's something like salad or a lot slower for milk or bad chicken.

Hope you feel better soon.
