Vitamin D deficiency

Had blood tests 5 weeks ago that showed my Vitamin D levels are low (not sure of numbers at the time surgery just phoned to say the levels were "a bit low" and to buy some Vit D supplements)

I've been taking 1000IU daily for 4 weeks and although I feel marginally better a lot of the symptoms that prompted me to contact the doctor are still here (muscle aches, fatigue, horrible prickly/tingly nerve sensations). Reading around a bit on previous threads I've seen that others have taken much higher doses and wondering if I need to get a higher strength. Just looked at local chemist and they only sell 1000IU tablets. Wondered if I could double up on the tablets I already have or if I need to buy higher strength ones.

Maximum recommended is 100ug or 4000iu per day. Did the GP not recommend the amount to take?

Mine was very low. I had prescription dose for 8 weeks. It took 4-6 weeks before the fog and aches lifted.

Now I use a spray 3 times a week.

You can buy the high strength one used in our area to boost levels - the chemist sells it to people who would pay for their prescriptions as it is cheaper. It is called Hux-D3 20,000 iu and the GP recommends one each week if your level is insufficient or one twice weekly if deficient, both for 6 weeks then step down to a maintenance dose.
I had this replacement just over a year ago so have been careful to supplement since as the GP warned me that people who don't, tend to become deficient again. I buy the Costco ones which are 2000iu and take them daily over the Winter months and here and there when I remember in the Summer

Thanks have ordered a higher strength supplement online. Doctor didn't give the actual level over the phone (think it was just receptionist phoning me actually) and just said "it's a bit low you can take supplements from the chemist". I will see how I feel after taking the stronger ones.
