Bottom "leakage"!

DS (6) has been having some leakage issues this week on an off. Usually in the evening but has just happened now. He doesn't notice it happening but just feels something wet in his pants when he sits down. There is never much there - a tiny amount. Is usually a short time after he has done a poo.

He feels ok. Is eating fine. Pooing as normal. Not squidgy. Just seems to be a little bit of liquid leakage with bits in (sorry if TMI!!!).

Any ideas?

Does no one care about my DS's bottom then?

If it's very stinky then he probably has got a blockage. Is his poo hard?

Desiderata · 15/09/2007 13:50

I care! I care!

But I've come over all anxious, 'cos I haven't a clue how I can help!

Neverenoughhandbags · 15/09/2007 13:52

Could be constipation with overflow Budababe-does he go regularly or tend to put it off?
If it is that then you need to give him some laxative suitable for children to get his bowel regular again.

Budababe · 15/09/2007 13:53

It's not stinky really. Poo hardish. Was thinking blockage - do we need trip to doc?

He goes fairly regularly but I don't think he likes to go at school so tends to go soon after we come home.

Try him with beetroot first. It's a very effective de-bunger.

startouchedtrinity · 15/09/2007 13:57

Blockage poo usually smells foul.

Have a go with diet and get him to drink a lot, but if that fails you might need a stool softener. Lactulose is great, if a bit dramatic (ds might need a day or two off).

Budababe · 15/09/2007 14:06

"Try him with beetroot" - lol lol lol Desidrata! He hates the sight of it!

Will work on fluid intake and diet. Grapes are good aren't they?

Thank you all for your help!

The odour is irrelevant. Oranges and prune juice works well. Lots of fluids preferably water.Lactulose is best if you need to give him something-a very sweet stool softener-will make his stool soft and runny.

startouchedtrinity · 15/09/2007 14:09

I was told by my Gp that the smell is quite indicative of a blockage rather than a tummy upset.

Good lord the things we talk about on here...

yes, grapes ar good - most fruit is except bananas.

Neverenough · 15/09/2007 14:13

Lol new one on me! The smell of stool is related to what has been eaten-also the smell of farts.
I suppose also to time in bowel and number of bacteria present.
My point being really that it's a soft sign and not reliable at all!

startouchedtrinity · 15/09/2007 14:15

T'was certainly true in the case of my lo...

Neverenough · 15/09/2007 14:32

Fair enoughski Trinity. makes me wonder therefore if my DH has a blockage....

Budababe · 15/09/2007 16:00

My DH def has a blockage!!!

Thanks for all advice - I knew Mumsnet would know!

OP posts:
Neverenough · 15/09/2007 16:02

Good so now you can fix it!

Budababe · 15/09/2007 16:03

It would take more than diet and fluid to shift HIS blockage. Any dynamite around????

OP posts:
Neverenough · 15/09/2007 17:05

What are you going to do Budababe?

Budababe · 15/09/2007 17:15

Well nothing really - honest guv! But if I were to clear DH's blockage it would take dynamite!

Although HAVE just ordered a curry!

...with extra chillies.....in my own modest experience, Budababe, that would cause major diplomatic incident.......lol
