I woke up a few days ago and had the awful spinning sensation. It stopped after about 30 seconds but when I rolled over it started again.
It's ok once I stand up although I don't feel normal and I wouldn't want to walk far or drive.
I've tried the Brandt Darroff exercises and they are manageable apart from first thing in the morning when they make me feel ready sick. I'm going to try and persevere.
The doctor has given me pills to treat the symptoms.
Is there anything else I can do? I have to shop for loads of elderly family and neighbours. Any help would be amazing.

@MangoesAreMyFavourite I am tired and stressed. I'm ok so long as I sleep on my left side and stay upright during the day. It's so odd. I managed to unload the dishwasher and tidy up my DD bedroom today.

I no one had a definitive answer but you've all made me feel much better. I ft really low this morning.
Thanks so much.

I had this and it lasted about 3-4 days bad with a few episodes here and there for next 6 weeks. ENT consultant said probably side effect of labyrinthitis. I think it had cleared up though by the time I got the vertigo

I’d be careful with Epley if your brandt exercises are making you ill. Epley made me very sick and the vertigo worse for me.

Tablets helped and also try hard not to toss and turn in bed. If you want to move head position do it slowly and controlled.

iklboo · 19/04/2020 22:28

Ask your GP about betahistine as well. Works well with cinnarizine to stop the vertigo and nausea.

Bestbe · 19/04/2020 22:31

@pleasebeafleabite. I couldn't do them again. I felt terrible this morning. I will be very slow and try and avoid moving.

@iklboo I am going to take them now and hope they make me sleep better.

Oh op you have my sympathies I am a sufferer also. When it flares up the GP prescribes stemetil and within three days it calms down.

Tips I would suggest: lay down/get up very slowly (also try turning in bed slowly too). Drink lots of water. Do not drive.

Hope your meds help - it's truly scary!!

Bestbe · 20/04/2020 19:14

@wineandsunshine Poor you.
I will try that. I am trying to drink more water.
I have been better today I think. It's still grim if I lay on my right side. But I managed to walk and buy some food and that was ok. Last night I just slept on my left side and put a pillow on the other side so I couldn't accidentally roll over.
I keep hoping it will just go away.

wineandsunshine · 20/04/2020 19:24

It wi go away, it just takes time especially if it’s inflamed inside. My worse spell took about six weeks to fully disappear but I was back to work after three days taking medication.
Good idea with the pillow - hope you are managing to get some sleep!!

Bestbe · 20/04/2020 19:40

@wineandsunshine. I did sleep I took the drugs and they knocked me out.
I hope it goes soon. Luckily I can function during the day.

@Bestbe - basically he did a history and symptoms then a couple of tests and then sort of clicked my neck a couple of times and it went! No didn't hurt.

Bestbe · 22/04/2020 07:22

@underneaththeash I might investigate.
It’s definitely better but still there. I’m sleeping ok and turning very very slowly. The spin lasts for about 10 seconds.
Thanks for your help

@Bestbe I had this in February. I needed to have my ears syringed as she could see inside my ear to check anything. I didn’t manage to get it done before lockdown so still waiting. It did clear up after a week or two but I get it briefly if I lie flat on my back. Good luck and hope it passes soon

Bestbe · 22/04/2020 09:16

@twinnywinny14 I’m sure I feel better today. I’m much better for not having taken the pills. They make me feel like a zombie.

What a timely post... I woke up this morning to the feeling of my eyes spinning inside my head, the worst dizziness ever. I nearly threw up, had cold sweats, shaking etc. Have then felt off balance all day. If I move my head 'wrong' the dizziness returns but not to the same level as this morning- that was another level! Going to try the Epley manoeuvre later when my husband is home, and very much praying it works. Don't feel safe to drive right now

Bestbe · 22/04/2020 15:04

@hertoehurts 6 months!! Oh my.
I have been trying to be as normal a possible. Tomorrow I really have to go to work. It should be ok so long as I don’t have to lay down... no chance of that. I’ll look at the exercises. I know it’s got to get worse before it gets better but I’m a wimp.

There is a link in some people between eating/drinking dairy products and their body producing mucus. It bungs up the balance bit of the ears.
I started getting this as my passageways started thinning and losing elasticity as peri-menopause hit me. They get more easily bunged up. I notice if I take anything dairy (even milk chocolate or creamy soup or sauce) the next evening I start becoming a bit dizzy. It lasts 48 hours and then goes.
Try not eating dairy for a while and see if the dizziness goes away. Take dairy again and see if it comes back.

Bestbe · 22/04/2020 16:37

@Elieza. Interesting I will. At this point I’ll do anything.
I’m trying the carter manoeuvre this afternoon. I’ve done it twice and no change.

I used to get this when I simultaneously had low vitamin d and ferritin levels

Bestbe · 23/04/2020 05:49

@browzingss I wondered about this. I am going to get some supplements. Thank.

Epley worked! Was horrific doing it, felt like I was going to be sick. Now terrified of moving too much in case it comes back.. certain what I had was BPPV. What are the Chances it will return?

Bestbe · 23/04/2020 19:36

@PickledWilly Well done. I might try it. I managed work today! Still spinning if I lay down but I think for a shorter time.

OP posts:
PickledWilly · 23/04/2020 20:03

Bestbe have you got a partner who can help you? My dh did it for me. Made me sooo dizzy whilst doing it (and I cried it felt so yuck) but have had no symptoms since. Before the Epley I couldn't lie down

Bestbe · 24/04/2020 17:56

I need to pluck up the courage. I’m a bit deaf on that ear so really think I need to see a doctor.
I managed work. But now I’m so tired.
