Handcream for broken skin?

LidlDonkey · 18/04/2020 13:23

My DD is frontline NHS and her hands are really dry, sore and cracked. However, all the creams she's tried sting her skin.

Could someone recommend the best, gentle cream please, as I'd like to get her some. Thanks.

A cream but also a soap to add to carex when washing at home, dermol 500 lotion. Not sure if comes in portable sizes but my hands were bleeding before I started using it they were so dry and they are so good now. It also doesn’t sting, it’s cooling.

NotMeNoNo · 18/04/2020 16:31

Neutrogena or the Aldi/Lidl versions that look similar. Did she try any of them

MissMuddyPuddles · 18/04/2020 16:32

Aveeno works best for me

UncleHerbie · 18/04/2020 16:33

I second Aveeno

Authenticcelestialmusic · 18/04/2020 16:36

I put lanisoh lanolin On before bed. It doesn’t feel too nice but works well overnight. I use it for chapped lips in winter too.

HollysBush · 18/04/2020 16:37

Love Aveeno

TheFaerieQueene · 18/04/2020 16:37

Diprobase cream is very good for this problem.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 18/04/2020 16:38

O'Keeffe Working Hands. Really peculiar texture but it has healed up my poor split eczema-addled hands.

Puddlesplasher · 18/04/2020 16:43

Aveeno with the blue top best for moisturising and is soothing.

To heal the splits she needs to use Flexitol heel balm. It will sting a bit but will fix the split skin.

waltzingparrot · 18/04/2020 16:54

Coconut oil or vaseline overnight

RusholmeRuffian · 18/04/2020 17:02

I have broken skin on my hands all the time due to a skin condition. Most creams sting my hands but ointments don't. Try Hydromol or Zeroderm.

SoloSolow · 18/04/2020 18:47

Diprobase ointment not cream is the best option. As well as the big tubs, it comes in a handy 50g tube size. So your DD can have it with her at all times.

It will soothe sore hands and is a good barrier to the effects of constant washing.

I have tried everything, but this is the best.

Hemp hand cream from the Body Shop. I use it every night and my hands are the softest and smoothest they've ever been.

Dreamersandwishers · 18/04/2020 19:48

Second diprobase ointment and cream. Long time eczema sufferer and these work well.

Riv12345 · 18/04/2020 19:52

Tropic skincare

Only available online
Perfectly natural
I work in the NHS
My hands were burning the other day, put the Tropic hand cream on and made such a difference, I keep it with me now.

Smells great too

woodencoffeetable · 18/04/2020 19:54

Nutrogena concentrated hand cream. But when mine are really cracked I add some steroid in. Washing with dermol instead of soap is a good idea too

MissCharleyP · 18/04/2020 20:00

I’ve been using Nursem (got it in Boots) and add a layer of Aquaphor (sp?) at night then put cotton gloves on. Through the day I use whichever one I have in my handbag/coat; I’ve got Sainsbury’s own brand, Heathcote & Ivory and Palmers concentrated cream. I can’t use the Neutrogena one as it made my hands red and itchy last time.

ChequerBoard · 18/04/2020 20:01

Has she tried Nursem? I bought some of the hand repair and the hand cream for my sister who had really badly sore, cracked hands. She says it has really helped and healed her hands amazingly well.

It's expensive but lasts ages - Elizabeth Arden 8 hour protection cream, to put on overnight. I did this last night and the difference is noticeable. You need to spend a minute or two rubbing it right in. Didn't sting

30daysoflight · 18/04/2020 20:04

Neutrogena unscented is excellent and doesn't sting. My hands get dry and bleed during normal times but this is the only thing that works for me.

LidlDonkey · 20/04/2020 15:46

Thanks everyone. Have got diprobase to start off with.
