Anyone have experience with Depo injection making them feel sh*t?

I'm due to get it again in a couple of weeks but have felt pretty horrible since i got it. dizzy and headachy. (TBH i've spent a fair bit on Preg tests this month because of it! all neg though)
the last couple of weeks I've been getting headaches and vomiting almost daily.
I went to the GP today and she said that even though Depo is progesterone and that doesn't cause the sick feeling (oestrogen does though) it's still probably the injection that is making me feel bad.
Does anyone have any experience of this? IS it the injection? should she have looked into this a bit further and not fobbed me off??

yes, progesterone does that to me. I remember being convinced I was pregnant all the time.

I can't remember the specifics of the depo but I never stopped bleeding on it so that alone made me feel crap!

(are you sure you don't have some awful bug or something?)

purplemonkeydishwasher · 12/09/2007 20:43

i don't think it's a bug. mostly i feel ok. then every once in a while i just get a headache and vomit. hasn't put me off my food even (unfortunately!!)

what did she suggest instead?

mamazon · 12/09/2007 20:46

when i was on depo i put on a tonne of weight and was just miserable and moody all the time.

i loved the fact that i had no AF but it made me feel awfull.

beansprout · 12/09/2007 20:48

I didn't feel too good, put on weight and it took months for it to leave my system. Was 18 months between finishing and finally conceiving this baby. If you are planning any more children, think very seriously about using this form of contraception. The web has plenty of stories about the problems depo has caused.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 12/09/2007 20:49

I'm still BF so I don't have a lot of choice! I'm going to try the mini pill again. but i don't know. i always forget to take them!

AND instead of stopping my AF it started it! I hadn't had one since DS was born now I've had 2!

Headache and vomit.....migraine?

tangarine · 12/09/2007 21:13

Snap mamzon! Weight gain, mood swings...feel much better now I'm off it.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 12/09/2007 23:08

that's the other thing. we do want another at some point so i'm not too keen on anything that takes ages to leave the system.

why can't we just have a form of contraception that's easy, and doesn't have a list of side effects as long as my arm??

When I saw the gynae at the FPC she ruled out Depo as an option for me because of my PND.

When I worked at a women's clinic in the US, the doctors would not give it to women who hadn't completed their families.

ProjectIcarusinhercar · 12/09/2007 23:19

If you haven't finished your family I wouldn't have it tbh. it took me a year to get back to normal when I came off it.

The implant however... I was pregnant straightaway when I came off it but it is progesterone again.

I have no idea what to do tbh, am breastfeeding don't want hormones, def don't want copper coil.

Condoms I suppose.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 13/09/2007 08:08

you know, expat, they never even asked about my PND. even though they should be able to see in the file that I'm on ADs. Obviously I should never have been given the injection to begin with. I could have saved myself a lot of pain and suffering!
