Migraine sufferers: are SSRI’s ok to take?

I’m thinking of asking my GP for antidepressants, I’m been feeling low for a while, and now feeling more obviously depressed in lockdown, and need to look after my 2 kids, under 5. But I suffer migraines 2-3 times a month. I rely on Triptans when I get one, and am not sure they’re compatible with SSRI’s. Also, wondered how others have found antidepressants in relation to migraine, as headaches can be a side effect, I think... Thanks

I have frequent migraines, maybe 3 or 4 a month and have taken a variety of SSRIs over the years. No issues at all, in fact I think they may actually have reduced on some of them

Hi OP. I was given propranolol for migraines. They are beta blockers and used for a variety of things from regulating blood pressure to helping people with anxiety. I was given them for migraines. They helped me a lot. They helped to relax me and stopped the migraines. Because I didn't have them on repeat prescription (got them for the first time a few months a go) I will need to somehow get a repeat prescription to get them again.

The only downside to them is that you need more sleep than usual. I needed about 9 hours a night when I'm usually ok on 7 hours while taking them but that was a small price to pay for the relief
