Any GPs around for advice about DD6?

Hoping someone can advise here on whether I need to ring the doctor or if we can just wait without doing her any harm. I don't want to bother them if we don't need to.

DD6 had a pretty yucky cold last week. Lots of mucus, heavy productive cough and slight temp for one day.

One of her nose blows popped her right ear and she said it hurt. We kept an eye on it and then yesterday she was outside in the garden for a while and complained of earache again so we gave her Calpol and she slept fine.

This morning she says the other ear hurts. She's a bit subdued but not massively, is eating and we've given her some ibuprofen Calpol. I suspect she has sinusitis.

So can we just wait and manage with Calpol or am I risking her hearing by not getting her antibiotics? Thank you Smile

I’m not a GP but I would ring yours (or contact yours however you do so) and ask their opinion. I would guess that she may need antibiotics, they’ll probably send a prescription to the pharmacy to pick up.

Two of my children have grommets so have had quite a lot of ear problems over the years. Whenever they have had ear infections that do require antibiotics the pain has lasted several days and they are unable to do very much in between Calpol/ibuprofen doses. My eldest was off school almost a week with her last ear infection (just before the schools closed) as she was in too much pain. My other one had one but it resolved itself within the same time.
I think the general rule is if the pain and temp lasts more than 3 days to speak to a doctor. Most infections do clear up without intervention. A phone call will do no harm if it will reassure you.

Thanks both. I did call in the end and the doctor called me back. We're so lucky to have a good surgery.

They said just give Calpol when needed and call back if she has fever, lethargy stops eating etc. Very reassured.
