How do you go about getting hospital records from A&E? And who should I complain to?

Can you expand a bit? complain about what....

Go to the hospital's PALS service (patient advice and liaison or something similar). They do have to provide the records but may make a charge for any photocopying. It is usually a good idea to ask for an appointment for someone to go through the notes with you to explain all the medical terminology.

Generally all hospitals have their own complaints procedure, if you google your hospital name, it will bring up the relevant contact details.

Another trip up to the hospital Sunday night with dd1.

My aunt is a paediatric nurse and I asked her advice as dd1 still was in pain despite max doseage of pain relief every 2 hours. She said that she would meet us at A&E. the Triage nurse had loads of sympathy and I could see her welling up while she was talking to us.

DD1 didn't know what to do with herself, she was in that much pain. The emDoc refused to let her see a paediatrician and basically made us feel like neurotic women. He couldn't understand why we had come to see him about this. He told us that the pain killers should kick in soon, but we were up to 2 hourly maximum dosage of alternate paracetamol and nurofen, which she had been on since the beginning of the week. My aunt thinks that she should be getting IV antibiotics, as he has diagnosed a respiratory infection as well. She has a huge ulcer on her tongue tie, she's just so run down. She didn't have a wee for over 36 hours either.

So this evening, she was complained of a pain in her back. I got an emergency appointment with our GP. He said that her eardrum was perforated and that she was dehydrated and quite close to being admitted now.

The EmDoc treated my dd1 shabbily and sent us away when he should have taken our complaint seriously. I don't particularly like spending most eveings at A&E?

Definitely PALS in the first instance, I'm so sorry you've had to go through this I would also see if your GP would support a complaint being made; one clinician dissing another is likely to have more weight than a 'mere' patient doing it Hope dd1 is feeling better soon.
