Amoxicillin for wisdom tooth/gum infection, how long until it works?

Been on amoxicillin since Monday afternoon. It's now Wed's afternoon. My infection has reduced but I'm not pain free yet. How long until its gone? Worried I might need different antibiotics. They offered metronidazole at first but I said I'd not had it before so I'd prefer amoxicillin as that what I've always had previously but I'm wondering if they offer that first as amoxi doesn't work as well any more? Anyone else had this experience?

I've had amoxicillin twice for an infected wisdom tooth but I took paracetamol and ibuprofen alongside it to manage the pain. Are you taking painkillers?

No, I'm saving them in case of emergency so going without. Maybe that's why it seems to be taking longer. Hopefully it'll be better tomorrow.

It didn't work very well for my gum infection so on the 4th day went onto metronidazole. Amoxiclav is a bit better.

I always thought metro was the dentist issue antibiotic?
No idea about amoxycillan for dental stuff but for everything else I find the third day.

It usually is metronidazole for gum infections. Dental nurse here.

Try warm salt water mouthwashes OP, the warmth will ease the pain and the salt is a natural antibiotic.

Ah ok. I might need to do contact them again then. Amoxicillin is why I always used to have and it used to work but it's been a few years since I had any issues.

Give diluted surgical hydrogen peroxide a go. I say surgical because I don't want you swilling domestos. If it can get to the infection it will oxidise the bacteria, fizz it away. Tastes like a mangey foxes arsehole but it works.

That sounds a bit grim Bloomburger, I've been using corsodyl and that tastes like bleach already!
