Sorry bit long and bit ranty!!!

My ds had been ill with his tonsils for 2 weeks, little blisters on them that became infected so he was pescribed penecillan which he reacted to so had to come off. Not pescribed anything else as seemed brighter in self. However 2 days ago i took him back to doctor as not well and doing alot of headshaking. I saw a relief doc whos said its prob just something he does and didnt even check his throat.

Last night ds went down hill pretty rapidly, trouble breathing, temp, sick etc and he was admitted to hospital ith suspected pnemonia.

Alot better this morning and breathing normal after a dose of different antibiotics and Doctor said his tonsils were still bad and infected.

Should the docter have spotted this two days ago and then all the upset, worry and angish of the past 36 hours wouldnt have been necessary. I have took two of my fluoxetine this morning cos im just so tired and upset.

Should i have a moan to my doctor about the relief doctor or not???

I would say something - if only to point out that they didn't look at his throat or examine him properly. My dd (when 4 months) had gastroenteritis and the relief doc didn't tell us about dioralyte and said just to give her clear liquids - she ended up in hospital with dehydration and my normal doctor made a formal complaint. I don't know what happened but I felt much better that someone listened to me and took my complaint seriously. I think it's worth doing and it might be worth getting the hospital doc's to write/say something about how ill he was/is to your normal doc.

Glad your ds seems a little better. Is he still in hospital??? I'd have a moan to you dr though. You'd have thought he'd have looked at your ds throat. To tell you the truth I don't have an awful lot of faith in drs. I ended up in hospital with pnemonia after a GP wrongly diagnosed a throat infection. Hope your ds is back to his normal self soon. Keep your chin up [hugs]

Yes we are home now ta. Ive put him straight to bed as he still is quite lethargic. Am seeing Doc on Fri so about him so will chat to him about the relief doc then

I am surprised your relief doctor didn't look at your DSs throat given he'd been diagnosed with tonsillitis though. That seems very odd indeed and definitely worth a mention.

The GP (not my own) we saw when DS1 had pneumonia didn't spot it either. To be fair though, DS was presenting with inconclusive appendicitus symptoms at that point and the GP did tell us to take him straight to A&E if he did not improve or deteriorated. Which we did.

Glad your DS is getting better!

Absolutely, complain. There is no excuse for the relief doctor not looking at your ds's throat (and listening to his chest). My gp's do that anytime I bring the children in for anything related to a cold (ie even for an infected eye, they will look at the throat, ears and listen to the chest).

make a complaint. when dh fell ill we called out the gp several times, called an ambulance out etc and they all said it was his asthma and gave him nebulisers or perscribed different inhalors. it was only when he got a lot worse, then we actually took him down a+e as wasnt happy with the gp. turned out he had DCM, and was placed in cardio ward that night for 2 weeks. never did get round to making a complaint, but the gp was struck off soon after anyway.

Ds seems a bit better today, shouting alot in a croaky voice. Hes still slepping alot but that must be the medicine. Will try him with some food later and see if he can keep it down.
