How manky are your teeth?

My teeth look healthy, nice and straight from the front but upon closer inspection my mouth is a hell hole. I'm 33 and wondering how common shitty teeth are as you get a bit older.

I had two really deep cavities when I was pregnant resulting in two very obvious molar removals at either end of my smile.

The more I look at my teeth the more cavities I can see developing (dark grey shadows on my teeth). I really look after them and I am whitening them at the moment; from the front they look really nice, but when I open my mouth it is full of amalgam fillings and the two aforementioned very obvious gaps/grey spots. I blame my Coke Zero addiction....

I am thinking of having implants done after trying a dental bridge when was pg and it was free, but it was shit. I am quite worried about losing more teeth.

So tell me MN, what are your teeth like? Have you had any work done? Do you regret it/was it really painful/successful?

Ah, thanks everyone for your input.

I get really annoyed because I have always gone to the dentist and have used an electric brush for about 20 years. Husband of 10 years has a very similar diet to me, doesn't have an electric brush and never goes to the dentist yet has no dental issues at all. Twat!

Similarly annoyed (and embarrassed!) that I didn't know you could randomly book to see a hygienist without a referral until about 3 years ago Blush otherwise I would have started going every 6 months yonks ago...! I love going to see her and wish I had known I could do so much sooner.

I have been thinking about replacing the amalgam with white fillings, will it be horrendous?? I'm not scared and I can take it, but did have a hard time recovering from an abscess- the dentist was brutal with dealing with it and I was in a lot of pain for two three days afterwards.

How did you lot find the implant process and recovery? How long do they last for?

I know I need to get a grip with the Coke Zero addiction...

40,s no missing teach but obvious fillings. But you see people on TV with perfect looking teeth except there not. they are implants and vanneers. Whitening is not always good either. DEf do homework before cosmetic surgery/dentistry as sometimes it can cause more issues.

I’m teeth are quite good, I’m 57. I really have to work hard to keep my gums healthy.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 15/03/2020 19:39

I'm 40 and I only have 1 filling and the only tooth I've had out was a wisdom tooth. They're a bit tea-stained though and are wonky because they're crowded. I have a big overbite as well and should have worn a brace when I was younger but stupidly chose not to.

sausagepastapot · 15/03/2020 19:59

@DustyMaiden how have you done that? Flossing and whatnot?

I enjoy a good floss but nearly always end up dislodging or popping out my goddamn fillings!!

Interdental brushes. I used to have that problem with floss, the brushes are only used on the gum line.

I'm 58 now and my teeth are in very good nick because I really look after them and go and have scale and polishing done every three months, use an electric toothbrush and floss/waterpick twice a day and although I have an NHS dentist due to affordability I do have private implant treatment.
I lost two teeth due to them being very heavily filled as a child and not enough tooth left for a crown. Both near the front.
My implants cost less than 1k (anyone interested where I go message me) and it's pay as you go. I do a day trip of 200 miles to go there as everywhere else it's 3-4k an implant.
If you are ignoring cavities you are not looking after your teeth OP.
You can go abroad and have all your old amalgams replaced with white fillings quite cheaply and I will certainly consider that in the future.
Teeth are so important and having worn a horrible and unomfortable temporary denture at the top while waiting for an implant i have no intention of letting them go and wearing dentures.
I don't eat or drink anything that would destroy my teeth either.

I had my first implant around 10 years ago and it's still perfect, you have to have them xrayed now and then to get them checked as the bone can deteriorate if you don't have regular hygeinist treatment, this is why I go every 3 months,
The process is fine, no pain at all.
But it's lengthy, the extraction, 3 months healing time, insertion of bone by injections so it doesn't wobble and 3 months healing time, insertion of implant, 3 months healing time, then moulds and then wait another month to have the tooh fitted, so from beginning to end a good, firm implant could take 10 months.
if you have no decent bone to put an implant in then you need a sinus lift (procedure on youtube).
if you smoke your implants will fail.
if your fillings are popping out when you floss OP it means they need to be redone urgently or your teeth will rot underneath.
i do all the routine stuff with an NHS dentist.

58 and ropey teeth. Dentist says my cleaning is very good but I had lots of fillings when younger, my uni dentist at 18 couldn't believe it so I think my childhood dentist in 60s/70s was crap. I have crowns, grey fillings and has a second molar out this week as crown fell out with bit of tooth attached. I am considering implants etc and wondering about going to private dentist

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 15/03/2020 20:21

44 .... never had a filling , good gums . My teeth are not brilliant white but I don't have any staining. I spent 5k on braces in my 30s but a couple of teeth on my lower jaw are wandering again despite my permanent retainer !
I'm super conscious of dental hygiene and use an electric tooth brush twice a day. I used to floss every day when I had braces . I don't smoke and don't eat or drink sugary things/ fizzy drinks.
I'm no angel but I just have a fear of losing my teeth ! More like an ocd/ phobia
