Is it normal to go for a wee three times a night?

I get up three times a night to have a wee. I drink about 1,500-2000 ml of liquid a day and try not to drink much after 6pm. When I wee at night, some comes out but not loads. It's like my bladder is not full but telling my brain it is. Anyone else in same situ? Any advice?

If it's a new thing it might be a UTI. Might be an idea to get tested.

TheWordmeister · 13/03/2020 20:01

Not normal for me -- I never have to get up.

lamppostdog · 13/03/2020 20:01

I have this, always get up at least once

lovetheweekends · 13/03/2020 20:01

Can be a sign of diabetes - best to have a check up.

IdblowJonSnow · 13/03/2020 20:33

I have this. Partly an age thing but always had a weak bladder. It can be intermittent though.
Makes me feel shattered. Sad
Btw, when I say an age thing I mean I'm postmenopausal and the hormones can cause this I've read.

3x a night!!! Hmm. How long has this been going on for OP?
I only get up in the early hours (very rarely) if I've drunk alot just before going to bed, had a big night out etc.
Certainly worth getting it checked, as its not only a disruption of your and a partners (if applicable?) sleep, but could certainly have underlying causes.

Batqueen · 13/03/2020 20:38

probably not diabetes as you would be wanting to drink more and more would come out, although diabetes does mean you rarely get through the night without needing the loo.

UTIs can be like this though, when I have one brewing I get the ‘urgency’ and go multiple times even if I haven’t had much to drink.

  • I have diabetes and frequent UTIs.

No that's not normal if it disrupts sleep frequently you need to go to the GP

user1471453601 · 13/03/2020 20:39

I'm 70 years old and I drink until 8/9pm. I pee twice a night. I've discovered how to get up and pee, eyes half closed.

If you are much younger, which I suspect you are, id go to your gp. I think mine is just age. My annual kidney/liver/ diabetes tests come back ok, so I don't worry too much

WisestIsShe · 13/03/2020 20:40

It's unusual for me to get up at all in the night. I drink loads of water and tea but usually sleep 7.5 hours.

Inforthelonghaul · 13/03/2020 20:41

I was like this but recently started using Vagifem and it’s had a fantastic effect very quickly. Now I need to go once at night if that.

MrsGrindah · 13/03/2020 20:44

It’s normal for me but I have a fear of wetting the bed so I think it’s psychological. But I’m also peri menopausal

heyjoeyitsestelle · 13/03/2020 20:46

I'm 30 and get up minimum 3 times. Sometimes more. I'm not sure if it's habit now, whether I've woken up as I need a wee, or I wake up and just go for a wee anyway. However I do we every time.

I went maybe 5/6 times last night. I have a baby and when he wakes me up I always go.
I've always gone at least once but it's defo getting worse now.
Apparently not so normal.
I also go for a wee and when I stand up after finishing more comes out

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 13/03/2020 20:47

I’m early 30s and have always woke up in the night to pee. Had urine tested numerous times and all clear. I just put it down to habit and a sensitive bladder

I think you need to see your GP. I only went that frequently at night when I was pregnant. Although if your baby keeps waking you up at night then i understand why you would go as often.
