Glaucoma-should I be worried?

Hi all, any help will be appreciated!

I went for an eye test last week due to my left eye constantly watering in the morning, which was then told to take dry eye drops.

I have been referred to have a vision field test, which is in two days, but the last two days my eye has been extremely red. There has been pus coming out both of my eyes. My right eye is not red like my left but there is blobs or redness.

I have been cleaning my eyes constantly with cooled down boiled water, so there is a bit of soreness around the edges.

I thought I may have conjunctivitis but after visiting the pharmacy, they told me to stop taking my dry eye drops, and use optrex "infected eyes" which seem to be working really well and my eye is now starting to clear up.

I am concerned about my appointment for the vision field test, shall I see if I can bring it forward due to the redness in my eye?

I had never heard of Glaucoma, so I'm super worried. I'm also 21 years of age..

Tried to put as much info sorry for it being long winded! Thanks in advance for any suggestions! Smile

Bump

Today I woke up to a thin liquid gushing out of my ear which then turns crusty upon drying.

My eye has cleared up so much, but it now feels like there is something stuck in it, and I'm really struggling as it hurts to blink. I have not long woke up so it could be this, but both eyes have been cleaned.

The antibiotic eye drops I have been using felt as if my eye was burning when I used them, and throughout the morning a similar discharge as to what is coming out of my ear, is also coming out of my left eye-which is my bad one..

I only have to wait until tomorrow until I go for my vision field test, but in still super worried.

Once again, thanks in advance and any help will be appreciated!!!! Smile

Hi Meg,

Give them a call and see if they can fit you in today instead. It sounds like you have an infection, they aren't glaucoma symptoms you're experiencing.

I'm not sure where your glaucoma worry fits in..were your eye pressures high at the original test?

You won't get an accurate result on the visual field test if you're suffering like this with your eye already so you'd likely have to rearrange the test for a later date. I would try and get the immediate issue looked at. If there's an ophthalmic urgent care nearby I'd suggest you go there. If you've been referred to a glaucoma clinic for your appointment they won't be the best people to see about this problem (yes they'll be opthalmologists but they specialise in other aspects of the eye)

Hey! Thanks you both for your replies!

I haven't long got in from my visual field test, it's not good by the sounds of it. My consultation has been bought forward to next week now as the lady who was doing the test thought it wasn't normal I am having so many eye problems at the age of 21.

The pressure in my right eye was 26 which was apparently higher than it should be. I found it weird as it was in my right eye where the high pressure was, after I have had so many problems with my left one...

The first thing she noticed was that my eyes were extremely red even though they are loads better than they have been, and she also noticed my eyes are bulging...

But otherwise, thank you for your replies! And I look forward to finding out what's wrong with me GrinSmile xxx

@Meg1999

Glad you been seen. 26 is a little high. Are you getting any headaches, feeling sick or noticing halos around lights?

dontdisturbmenow · 14/03/2020 07:16

My understanding (not medically trained) is that you can get acute glaucoma, in which case, you would need urgent treatment so your eyesight is not affected.

My son at 19yo was referred for an urgent appointment to the hospital when he had one very red eye and they couldn't identify what it was and no treatment was helping. It turned out to be allergy, but I remember the GP who made the urgent referral stating that they wanted to rule out acute glaucoma.

Do you have a hospital with an Eye Casualty near you? If so you can just turn up (like any other casualty dept) and be seen by a specialist HCP. You could get this sorted today.

I have started seeing the rainbows/halos around lights now, super fed up now

@Meg1999, did you find out what's causing the rainbow halos?

muffb · 07/04/2021 21:29

@Nets888 Hey! Yes I did- had lots of eye tests to find out I have thyroid eye disease, found this out through a thyroid function test which showed I had an overeactive thyroid. If I remember rightly the rainbow halos lasted roughly 4 hours. The halos were on top of lots of other symptoms aswell
