Back from the bronchoscopy - is it normal that ds is so sleepy after the general anesthetic?

He came around at about 11 am this morning, at first he was quite perky, but then at 1.10 pm he had a nap and ever since then he is either sleeping or being very quiet.

Also has a temp which doctor said to expect and to give calpol.

Consultant said the bronchoscopy showed some secretions in his lungs (even though he is well atm), and they are going to test those for bugs, and his airways are smaller on the left side of the lung than on the right.

He wasn't very clear on what the cause could be, but he said it wasn't overly worrying.

Still leaves me wondering though what this might mean now...

Glad he is out of operation

My dd had an operation this year and she was awake and fine about an hour after it, no drowsiness or anything. Some children are sick after a general but I'm not sure if tiredness is expected hours after. Maybe give the hospital a call to reassure yourself?

My dd we had to keep quiet and still as the operation was on her eyes but she didn't want to and was very perky.

DS had a GA about six months ago to have some teeth out. He came back from the op just after 3pm and was awake but then he went back to sleep and was completely out of it until 7.30. I was beginning to wonder if he'd ever wake up but the nurses didn't seem overly concerned. We then went home and he went to bed and slept all night.
Dd on the other hand had a hernia op and was awake very quickly and playing happily at home within a couple of hours! She'd eaten her lunch and been to the loo so she was allowed to leave. I suppose some children are just affected more than others.

Yes, it's totaly normal. I had a bronchoscopy a year ago and it was really unpleasant - I've had lots of colonoscopies but I found the bronchoscopy much more invasive. I was very groggy for a few days afterwards; regardless of the GA, the actual procedure itself is enough to knock you out a bit.

Hope he bounces back v. soon nad that the results are all clear!

He's back to his old self now.

(just when I feel ready to go to bed soon... sigh... had to get up at 5.10 this morning...)
