Dr says it's a ganglion, but I'm sure it's not.....

I had a huge one, Dr also suggested banging with a "family bible". He said he didn't recommend surgery unless it became really painful or I couldn't stand it anymore. It was neither painful nor bothersome so just left it. Then suddenly one day I realised it had gone. Not sure whether it disappeared gradually, or naturally, or whether I had accidentally banged it somewhere.

hope mine disparoos
looks not nice!

I've got one on my wrist..tho it comes and goes. You're not sposed to bang it anymore cause apparently it could damage things inside...dr drew off the fluid with a needle with mine which helped it go down a bit

I had one - snd it did hurt. I thought it was the beginning of arthritis - then one day I fell and banged it - and it vanished!

Get a small torch and hold it up against the lump. If it glows pink, it is a ganglion.

If removed 50% come back. It's best to leave it alone. The soreness will probably settle.

SixKinds · 09/09/2007 07:47

My son (8) has a lump on his elbow which has been diagnosed as either a ganglion or a cyst or a lymphoma (razor-hot diagnosis precision .
Cyst would apparently glow pink too. All are harmless and all are removable. GP advised not bothering to remove it, largely because surgery would be not nice for an 8yo.

NorksDrift · 09/09/2007 08:04

I think they must have meant lipoma not lymphoma if they were suggesting leaving it alone!

SixKinds · 09/09/2007 08:16

Oh, probably. I am stupid non-medical person. Yes, lipoma sounds right -- 'blob of fatty stuff' is the more technical term, I understand?
(Love your name!)

I had one on my left hand more or less on the joint of the wrist. I had mine removed back in 1992 as it was really painful. The Dr did suggest the family bible as well but saw that at the age of 16 that wasn't a route I wanted to go down! The only problem I have with it now is that I am still numb in the area of the op where they accidently cut the nerves but it doesn't cause me any problems.
