Have they checked you for fibroids? In years of complaining about awful, painful periods I was never scanned and I was told to go on the pill or have a d&c to sort out my period pain, both of which I declined as options. When I was pregnant I was told I had fibroids and these could have caused my terrible periods.

Well hope you find a solution that works. I'd give the Mirena a go I think just so I'd know that anything I did was because I had tried all the less invasive options.

tori32 · 06/09/2007 20:37

What he should be offering you first is a laparoscopy to investigate the bleeding. As has already been said it could be fibroids or the start of something more serious which if caught early is very treatable. When was your last smear test .( you don't need to answer that btw) If its a while then get one immediately. If he doesn't think its physical causes and rather hormonal agnus castus is a natural remedy which helped me to regulate my cycle in 3-4 mths. Can get it from health food shops.

tori32 · 06/09/2007 20:40

sorry x posts! Unlikely to be fibroids because they show up on scans usually. They may not be able to find a reason, but pursue it relentlessly because there will be a cause. Have they checked your hormone levels with blood tests?

hertsnessex · 06/09/2007 20:47

i had an ablation - no periods since - however due to the risk of still falling preg but having a v late m.c i also had sterilisation at the same time. all of this 4mths after ,/c my 3rd child. think carefully about ablation - i regret it.

i really do feel for you as i've had this problem for 12 years forget how many times i've been anemic from it but cerazzette have worked wonders was on 1 a day but my body went backl to normal so changed to 2 and in no time they stopped

bubblagirl · 06/09/2007 21:04

i take 150 mcg a day

RTKangaMummy · 06/09/2007 21:27

ASK ABOUT:

  1. MEFENAMIC ACID 250 mg CAPSULES

  2. TRANEXAMIC ACID 5OO mg TABLETS

They are deffo brill

Take them for few days when bleeding and they really work

NOT AT SAME TIME I TOOK 1. FOR A FEW YEARS AND NOW HAVE MOVED ONTO 2.

RTKangaMummy · 06/09/2007 21:48

They are NOT hormone tablets

The ones I take anyway

They are to control bleeding for after operations or other things that I can't remember atm

hertsnessex · 06/09/2007 21:56

didnt say they were.......was making another observation i.e. when you are told to try the pill or coil etc.

lilolilmanchester · 06/09/2007 21:58

Tranexamic acid works for me too. Go into a bit of a panic if I've run out!!

whomovedmychocolate · 06/09/2007 22:04

I had the same perscription as RTKangaMummy for a while and it really helped. I can't take the pill or anything hormonal and these were the only thing that helped. Reduced 10 day periods to four days and a lot less clotting too.

I'd be nervous about the Mirena coil if I were you. Actually all your options sound a bit crap - ask for a second opinion. I found out after five years of being fobbed off I had a rare blood disorder - and they couldn't treat it but it was causing massive hormonal peaks which made my periods v heavy.

BTW my problem resolved itself with weight loss and cutting out all sugar/processed food from my diet.

RTKangaMummy · 06/09/2007 22:10

hertsnessex

sorry my post was rather abrupt and rude

I thought I should explain that they weren't hormones

whomovedmychocolate · 06/09/2007 22:12

RTKanga - you do realise you've made yourself sound like you've got PMT now don't you?

RTKangaMummy · 06/09/2007 22:15

Just trying to multitask

Talking to DH, watch TV and MN

Not doing any of them very well tonight either

The thing is I don't really know what the tablets are used for apart from they work for me

Piffle · 06/09/2007 22:20

agree tranexamic acid was the canines testes for effect of heavy bleeding (due to cysts in my case)

whomovedmychocolate · 06/09/2007 22:24

Wiki description of Tranexamic Acid

whomovedmychocolate · 06/09/2007 22:25

Ponstan Forte/nefamic acid info here

hertsnessex · 06/09/2007 22:26

Piffle · 06/09/2007 22:29

although one suspects as T Acid is a firstline treatment, Harman has probably already tried it maybe...

lilolilmanchester · 06/09/2007 23:22

thanks for the wiki description whomovedmychocolate... Can you provide a translation pls??

i know how you feel i tried everything and the cerazzette pill was last option for me and luckily it works but not on 1 tab had to be changed to 2 and if my body rejects this then it will be a more serious discussion again so ireally know how you feel maybe you could try 2 cerazzette aday its designed to stop periods and it has worked for me and i've been a tough nut to crack for over 10 yrs its worth a try if you haven't already
