Getting a sick note for arthritis

I have arthritis in my hands. They are really bad at the moment. They keep getting stiff, aching and and the joints of my fingers sometimes have a burning sensation. I work in childcare so its very hands on (picking up babies and children, changing nappies and paper/computer work) all these are causing extra pain and discomfort. Wondering if the dr would issue me a sick note for this? Anyone been given a sick note for arthritic pain?

Can you try some anti inflammatories first before going off sick?

You can self certify for up to a week, and as a GP I'd be wanting to optimise your pain control. If it's RA then you need to be talking to your rheumatologist about a DMARD or biological. Reasonable to have either a sick note or a 'may be fit to work' note suggesting adaptations such as more regular/longer breaks.
