Dh has to see a general medicine consultant every 9 months or so.

Is this normal?.

Any dr, don’t have a specialist endo here so usually see the diabetic specialist. The main dr who was dealing with it left, so I went to another dr who was bloody brilliant but she’s never available now, they literally do a blood test, check the levels and then adjust the medication if needed. I’ve been on the same dose for 3 years now 🤦🏼‍♀️

Pelican, buying T3 abroad is what people are often reduced to because the nhs doesn’t listen to how you feel, never mind look at a blood test. T3 is not tested any more unless you pay or have an incredible GP/consultant ( which I do).
I don’t convert T4(levothyroxine) to T3, but am fortunate my GP and my Endo consultant still get me Liothryonine (T3) on the NHS. I would be another buying it abroad if not.

Inthink I need to read up on all this. I wouldn’t have a clue how to interpret my results. What does T 3 do?

Raisinandcheese · 05/03/2020 20:16

Pelican, this link kind of explains it, probably better than me:
kresserinstitute.com/why-your-normal-thyroid-lab-results-may-not-be-normal/
Basically, I was really really ill, to the point of not functioning even though my Tsh and T4 was supposedly normal.
You need all the thyroid hormones, imho, to function. Most people can convertT4 to T3, but I can’t.

This is fascinating. I used to with NDT bought on the internet, as I my results as were at the edges of the normal range and despite a litany of hypo symptoms it was always put down to something else. For various reasons I stopped that last summer, felt awful and gained weight but on a private test found my results were now in the subclinical hypo range. GP is now trialling me on levothyroxine. Depending on how this goes I may just carry on or supplement on my own - I'm already feeling better on just 50mcg T4 so will see if my GP will keep me going.

raisin

Thanks for that. I will read it carefully.

I knew about the eyebrows (about to have mine microbladed back on) but just looked at my arms and yes they are almost hairless !
