Anybody else freaking out about corona virus?

Hi,

Is anybody else really starting to get worried about corona virus. I'm not worried about myself that much I'm mainly concerned for my 2 year old and my 4 month old. Making me Really anxious and nervous!

It is very concerning. Not happy about having to move right now and send dc to school by public transport. Hopefully schools close soon and wear masks outside.

HerRoyalNotness · 26/02/2020 15:19

My middle has health anxiety so we are working hard to stay calm so he does. I wouldn’t start worrying until there is something to worry about

patientlydying · 26/02/2020 15:26

Mine is opposite chronic chest con. but wants to catch it so she can stay off school

Silvercatowner · 26/02/2020 15:56

But worrying is just expending energy. You (or your rels) are either going to get it or you aren't. As long as you are observing the hygiene stuff there's not much more you can do.

lljkk · 26/02/2020 18:08

Children seem to be more mildly affected than adults. It's age 60+ and folk with reduced lung capacity most affected (I think)

emmathedilemma · 26/02/2020 20:23

Not at all (and I'm currently travelling through airports on a weekly basis). Got more important stuff to waste my energy on. What will be will be. Wash your hands and don't pick your nose.....

MinesaPinot · 26/02/2020 22:37

No. I work in London and travel by train every day so interaction with other people is unavoidable. I take all of the precautions that are suggested anyway ( washing hands thoroughly, sneeze or cough into hankie and using antiseptic gel) so I figure there's not much more I can do. I did have a cough and cold symptoms a couple of weeks ago so I did take a couple of days off sick, mainly not to infect anyone else but not because I thought it was anything more serious.

OhTheRoses · 26/02/2020 22:42

No. It seems a lower percentage of people die from it than from influenza. Over-hyped.

Knitwit99 · 26/02/2020 22:46

Are you serious? How long do you want schools to be closed for?

Courtney10891 · 26/02/2020 22:51

I know that the percentage of people that die from it has been small, I just don't think the media are really helping. They keep calling it a deadly virus which is prob why I'm worried. I do live in central London too so it's not like I can avoid people lol x

OP posts:
Shineynew · 26/02/2020 22:53

No children have died from it. Not one.

OhTheRoses · 26/02/2020 22:54

The media are not well known for writing the truth; they wrote what sells papers. Google the facts and see if Amazon have any special offers on grips.

bluejelly · 26/02/2020 22:56

Honestly try not to worry the risk is still very low. Most people have v mild symptoms if they do contract it. I think frail older people need to be cautious but not children/generally healthy adults.

@OhTheRoses ok keyboard warrior you're hilarious

I'm not usually bothered by this sort of thing but I now come under the vulnerable group and it's starting to bug me a bit. Not to the point where I've stopped going anywhere or anything but I'm more concerned than I would have been 5 years ago.

Lovemusic33 · 27/02/2020 08:51

I’m not worried about getting it but worried about being in isolation or away from my DD’s, my DD’s both have sn’s and I’m a single parent with no support other than my mum who has a partner who is in the high risk group, so I would be a bit stuck if I was to become ill.

I’m starting to think I should be stocking up on a few things, mainly things for dd2 to do if we are stuck in the house, she likes to keep busy so I might stock up on craft items. Being stuck at home won’t be too bad for anyone other than the fact we can’t work, we all have things like net flicks, amazon prime and the internet t keep us entertained and surely we can get online shopping delivered?

novacaneforthepain · 27/02/2020 09:10

Yeah I feel the same, worried about my 7 month old and 3 year old.
Worried about potentially being quarantined and separated while breast feeding , or just being separated from the kids in general.

I have actually just got a big supply of nappies and other baby supplies just in case.

I think some people are so selfish and won't isolate themselves if they have symptoms.

I know most people are saying not to worry but I just can't help it 😞

stairgates · 27/02/2020 09:26

I have been worried but found the link below quite reassuring, it gives the percentage of death rates to age, plus gender and pre existing condition, Im pregnant so was worried we were high risk but it doesnt seem to mention that we are.

stairgates · 27/02/2020 09:26

0-9 years is currently no fatalities :)

On a small scale I agree. However if hundreds of thousands of people are stuck at home for weeks then that will have a huge impact on the economy.

Will delivery drivers still be available? Will supermarket pickers still be available?

Will you still be paid? What impact if you're not paid for a few weeks?
What impact on your employer if they have to pay you for not working - whilst their business has ground to a halt and no money is coming. A lot of business won't be able to take the hit for long.

CroissantsAtDawn · 27/02/2020 09:39

BTW I'm not freaking out about the virus.

But I am concerned about the impact of lockdowns on society and the economy.

Lovemusic33 · 27/02/2020 09:46

That’s true, I am self employed and work in the care industry so it will be tricky to self isolate for 2 weeks, I won’t get paid but it won’t be the end of the world. People that have already had the virus would be allowed to work as they would have immunity, they were just talking about this on tv, if it does sweep through the uk eventually most people will be immune, it’s very unlikely that everyone will be struck down at once and most people won’t be that unwell with it and could be removed after 2 weeks.

Herocomplex · 27/02/2020 09:49

There are reports of reinfection, so it’s possible that immunity isn’t certain following initial illness.

RocketFire · 27/02/2020 09:50

why freak out when the other option is to educate yourself?
