How to get rid of a headache

uuurrrrgggghhhhh · 23/02/2020 15:38

Any tips please?
I’ve had a headache night and day for around 4 days now.
Tried paracetamol, ibuprofen, day nurse, night nurse, menthol forehead rub, Ice pack, hot water bottle. My last resort after googling was to try 3 aspirin.
All of them work for a short while, but within 2 hours the banging headache is back. Took the 3 aspirin 2 hours away and can just feel the banging starting to come back.
Any ideas?
It started after i had had flu. I’ve also got a horrendous cough so not sure if that’s the cause?

Are you drinking plenty of fluid and managing to eat? Dehydration and low sugar causes and prolongs headaches.

Also Thanks for you because headaches are awful

uuurrrrgggghhhhh · 23/02/2020 15:41

Yeah eating an ok amount. Probably not the most nutritious food as I just fancy beige stuff. Drinking a good amount too.
I’m not sure how much more I can take of this to be honest!

Have you checked your blood pressure. I had terrible headaches for 8 weeks.. turned out to be high blood pressure.

You could try getting someone to press hard on the fatty bit under your thumb on your right hand. You can feel when they have to right spot as it has this weird pain.. and a relief in the head feeling.

uuurrrrgggghhhhh · 23/02/2020 15:59

No haven’t checked blood pressure. Will try for a gp appointment tomorrow. Feel like I’ve spent the last 2 weeks at the doctors with kids and husband!

Headaches are awful and I'm frequently have them and they knock me for 6.
Drink lots
4head stick from the pharmacy- it's like a glue stick (not sticky) and you rub it where your head hurts and it takes the edge off the pain
Sleep
Fresh air
Hope you feel better soon Thanks

uuurrrrgggghhhhh · 23/02/2020 16:09

The 4head stuff is the menthol thing I’ve been using. It is good, but like everything else it only lasts an hour or so.

Lots of water, rest/sleep and fresh air for me. Hope it gets better soon.

boogiebogie · 23/02/2020 18:26

Yes the cough... Is it dry and unforgiving? Think the relentlesness of it is causing my headache.

uuurrrrgggghhhhh · 23/02/2020 18:45

Yes to the cough. It’s constant. I can feel my brain pulsing with pain every time I cough!

Eye test? Do you normally wear glasses or anything? It could be a tension headache if you're stressed out after a run of illness in your family?

TokyoSushi · 23/02/2020 18:50

Have you done any exercise? I'm a mega headache sufferer and I find that a couple of painkillers and then a really brisk walk in the fresh air to get your heart rate going kind of pumps the painkillers round a bit and really helps, even if you don't feel like it!

Puddlelane123 · 23/02/2020 18:53

Sudafed? Could it be your sinuses perhaps? Just a thought too, but could you be teeth grinding at night? I go through periods of continual headaches and for me is is associated with teeth grinding

DangerMouse17 · 23/02/2020 18:56

What I tend to resort to if its lasting over days:
Lemonade
Ready salted crisps
A different painkiller - syndol from the chemist with the muscle relaxant is very good...or naproxen
Rotating heat/cold pack on back of neck or on forehead (depends where the pain is)
Bit of yoga on youtube for headaches to loosen neck/back

happymummy12345 · 23/02/2020 19:03

I suffer badly with headaches so I know how awful it is. Can't be more help as I only use my 4head stick which always works well for me (I know you said you've tried that). But I hope you find a way to get rid of them and you feel better soon.

Toria70 · 23/02/2020 19:13

Sounds like sinusitis. Do you feel dizzy if you lean forwards?

I used to suffer dreadfully until I gave up dairy products.

I'd see your GP.

uuurrrrgggghhhhh · 23/02/2020 19:13

Maybe I’ll try a painkiller targeted towards migraines tomorrow.
I think perhaps it is sinus? Although I don’t have that awful pain under my eyes?
When I yawn and cough I get a shooting pain in my head and the rest of the time it’s just a dull ache.
Fresh air earlier today definitely helped.

Ooohhh I do feel a bit off balance when I lean forward. And my head hurts more when I do that too.

Caffeine? It works for me.

sohypnotic · 23/02/2020 20:54

I'm pretty much addicted to 4head, get frequent tension headaches. Massage can help when the 4head is no longer cutting it - whether it's using hands or a vibrating massager (or actual vibrator!) all over head, around ears, eye sockets, nose, everything!

uuurrrrgggghhhhh · 23/02/2020 21:07

I’ve done another 3 aspirin, 4head and this time combined it with vicks vaporub and a wheat bag for my neck.
In fairness the aspirin lasted pretty well from 1.30-7.30pm. So 6 hours of semi relief.
Might get some tiger balm tomorrow.

Syndol but has to be the sort with the muscle relaxant. They changed the formula some years ago but the original is back now
