Im not sure if this sounds strange but here goes. In april I found a lump in my left breast and went to the doctors about it. He felt it and referred me to hospital to see a specialist. The appointment came through for 3 weeks later and I went. I couldn't feel the lump and the specialist had a feel and said It was fine. He said to go back to doctors if i have any problems. I didn't have an x ray or anything but was happy i'd been given the all clear. The thing is I know it sounds silly but my breast hasn't felt the same since. It just doesn't feel right. I can't feel a lump but it I have pain and numbness sometimes. i've tried to explain to DH and all i can say is that hat it doesn't feel part of me anymore. the thing is i don't know what to do, should I go to GP as DH suggests but what do I say my breast doesn't feel right. I know it sounds strange but thought i'd ask you for a bit of advice. Thanks

Go and insist on another referal. Go privately if necessary to speed it up. Trust your instincts.

Go back to your GP and say exactly what you have said here. You are not wasting their time - that is what they are there for. Anything to do with breasts - lumps or otherwise - shouldn't be left; don't let them fob you off.

Sorry for sounding so bossy!!!

go and get it checked out

Whimsy, please go. I would bet that you are fine and there is nothing sinister underlying the feelings you have - I think you are just reacting to the scare that you had when you found the lump. If you had had the mammogram / ultrasound and been given the all clear, then you probably wouldn't be feeling like this now, but because you only had a physical, a part of you isn't 100% sure that everything is okay and I would bet thats why you are feeling this way. Also, some women who do have cancerous lumps in their breast, want the breast removing, not just because of the cancer, but they feel its not part of their body anymore.

That said, not all cancers of the breast start with a lump - my friend, for example, had breast cancer which was detected when she had a vague but persistent tenderness in her armpit.

So, I would see your GP for a referral and ask for a mammogram / ultrasound - if there is something there, it will be detected; if there isn't, I think the procedure will set your mind at rest once and for all and get rid of the feeling you have

Honestly, your GP will trust your feeling that all does not seem well, he won't think you are being silly or hysterical. Please go

Whimsy - you are quite within your rights to say it doesn't feel right and you are not going to accept being fobbed off. INSIST you are referred again and refuse to leave the surgery until he/she does.

I would - otherwise I'd worry myself stupid.

get a mammogram and sleep easy!
