Sleep deprivation- ear defenders you can sleep in?

Hi, my partner is really struggling with lack of sleep due to neighbour noise, and he is super stressed and worried it's going to affect an ongoing health issue. It's twin toddlers next door so it's not like blaring music, we can't ask them to 'turn them down'! They've just moved in so it's a new issue. He can't use ear plugs due to a problem with impacted wax in one ear (lovely, sorry). I wondered if there was such a thing as ear defenders that you can comfortably sleep in, ie not those big bulky ones? I've searched online but can only find earphones designed to sleep in, which you can play music through, rather than simply noise cancelling ones. Any ideas??

Can he not get the impacted wax cleaned out? That's going to become painful for him over time.

Has he tried BioEars? It's wax you smoothe over the ear rather than in it IYSWIM. They're absolutely brilliant and available in Boots

serendipity yes he's been to the docs about it and is using olive oil to loosen it but it will take time.

ohwerenearlythete thanks, i'd not heard of those- I'll try to get some today. Worth a try!

I use Boots Wax Muffles Earplugs. Really good. I don’t use a whole one I chop in half (very petite ears).

IAmUniquelyMe · 23/02/2020 04:02

Yes, Boots Muffles are the best.

Mammyloveswine · 23/02/2020 06:16

How much noise are two toddlers making to have this much affect on their neighbours?

Can you clarify?

Do you have children? What will he do when his sleep is really disturbed every hour or more?

Sorry OP it just sounds a little extreme!

Mammyloveswine · 23/02/2020 06:17

Apologies op just read about ongoing health issue..

Can you speak to the neighbours and explain? Maybe you could apply for some funding for sound proofing?

TheLadyAnneNeville · 23/02/2020 09:56

These...
They have a few different types but these are the best.

Thanks for your apology mammyloveswine, coz yes your previous comment was pretty unhelpful. If he's struggling, he's struggling- I don't need to justify it. Yes we have 3 children - teenagers now, one of whom is autistic and was a poor sleeper - so I get it, but having had young children doesn't make him except from being kept awake at night. The walls are pretty thin between these terraced houses.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 23/02/2020 23:16

OP, I forgot to say. With the Boots ear plugs, you don’t need to wedge them far down your ear canal. I have an ongoing problem with a perforated ear drum and often need antibiotic drops/cream. I apply medicine and then gently put the Muffles in, even just a bit, help to lessen the snore on DH 🙄

As for speaking to the neighbours, there’s little you can do really. It’s a tough one. Hoping you can sort.

DesLynamsMoustache · 23/02/2020 23:22

Try a white noise machine too. Earplugs and white noise machine can block out all manner of noises! I use it as a combo when DH is on night waking duty or has DD early in the morning when I'm having a lie in and it's bliss Grin

DesLynamsMoustache · 23/02/2020 23:22

(Or just white noise on phone/tablet for free!)

TheLadyAnneNeville · 23/02/2020 23:27

@DesLynamsMoustache, that’s a good idea.

primrosemaud · 24/02/2020 06:14

Thanks for all the suggestions. I really appreciate it. The white noise on the phone might help too. He's been sleeping in the sitting room for the last few nights so at least has had good sleep but it's not really a long term solution!

Just found this on Amazon for my son. Wondered if it might help.
