Adult braces for teeth.

DS, 20, says his front teeth are twisting. He is considering dental work.

Any idea if he can have a traditional brace, and the possible cost; and visalign costs?

Many thanks.

If teeth are twisted then he'd probably need train tracks ie a fixed brace. Mine was £3600 and took just over a year to correct. Costs do vary though, my teeth were pretty out of line and bite was awful. Also a lot of providers have payment plans to spread the cost. I would get him to have a consultation with a couple of orthodontists which are in my experience usually free.

Hi, DH has quite a bad misalignment top and bottom due to wisdom tooth overcrowding, and is having wire braces on. Not traditional train tracks, a more 'subtle' single wire style. Only the front teeth need attention as the rest have remained straight.
Costing £3,100 and should take about 9 months, give or take.

I want mine sorted, just the top have moved during pregnancies and are now a little wonky (nothing too noticeable).
Been quoted between £1500 and £2100 for Invisalign.

Both of us wore braces as teens, apparently this means our teeth can be manipulated back into place more easily?!

As PP said we both had free consultations and a visual of the before and after.

I admit DS had braces in his teens but didn't wear the retainer 🙄. He is a young bloke who often has to learn from his own mistakes....

I had my top teeth fixed with invisible braces. One twisted/rotated 90degrees and several overlapping. It was just over £2k but would cost more now.

Metal braces via own dental practice.. 10 months and cost 1.5 k.
I am 48!

I've got train tracks top and bottom (top ones are clear, bottom ones are metal), cost of £4k (am in an expensive area, but I really trust this orthodontist), will take 12-18 months. Invisalign would have been a lot cheaper, but my teeth were a bit of a mess, and needed the train tracks. Price includes both removable and fixed retainers.

I have Invisaligns at 24! Top and bottom from 6 teeth. Went on for about 10 months and cost around £3000 but that was 8 years ago! People didn't notice I had braces in and after they fit a metal wire on the back of your teeth that you keep in forever and they stop your teeth from moving!

flutterby31 · 19/02/2020 16:15

I had incognito which are train tracks on the back of your teeth so totally invisible. I had them at age 26 for six months followed by permanent retainers, again on the back of my teeth. Quite expensive though £7500

I would advise him to have nothing done unless he gets confirmation from the dentist that his wisdom teeth are fully through. I had braces as a teen but my wisdom teeth threw everything out.

I had six month smiles in my forties which only properly line up all the front teeth you see when smiling. They are fixed braces but with clear fixings and a white wire, so fairly unobtrusive. They can usually do it without any extractions, but they do file down the edges of the teeth to make enough room to straighten them.

It cost somewhere under £4k as I recall and took about 7 months.

Thanks everyone.

Sorry should have said, 'train tracks' as in the bracket/wire combo but the brackets were clear. Still quite noticeable though I thought.

I had train tracks as an adult through the NHS.

Lellochip · 20/02/2020 08:38

If it's just the front ones and a cosmetic issue have a look into the Inman Aligner. Removable, bit cheaper and quicker, but more limited in what it can achieve. I wore one for I think about 15 weeks, cost 2k

Miljea · 20/02/2020 17:49

Yell, I think they only give you one go on the NHS, which he's had!
