High grade (moderate) dyskaryosis

I've just recieved this letter this morning. Now beside myself with worry. I've had so many health problems over the past few years and this just feels like the final straw.

Please can someone offer a hand to hold? I'm a single parent and this has sent my anxiety into overdrive.

Just bumping for any advice.
I don't want to tell anyone IRL mainly because I think my friends and family have had enough of my health issues

See www.unidocs.co.uk/docs/cx/abnormal/english.pdf for more information.

Note in particular the following: Treatment (colposcopy) is nearly always 100 per cent successful. The area of changed cells will be removed from the cervix.

If you had mild dyskaryosis they would just get you to wait 6 months and see whether it had gone away by itself. Because it's moderate they will intervene to make sure the altered cells are removed and can't cause problems in the future. This is exactly what cervical screening is for.

I had a colposcopy for abnormal cells, this was over 20 years ago. All my smears since have been clear. Please try not to worry, hope this helps.

Easier said then done but please try not to worry.
I had the same high grade whatever, (can't remember or it spell it! ) together with CIN3 cells, had a colposcopy and it successfully removed all abnormal cells , following smear was clear.
As your letter says almost always the abnormal cells found are not cancerous. Try and focus on this very positive line in the letter.
If absolute worst happens and they are cancerous they will have caught it very very early and therefore treatment will be minimal with an exceptionally high rate of success.
Just get it checked out and go to appointment asap.
Good luck xxx

I’m awaiting my smear test results too and fully prepared myself for this result too. But I am not too worried as like others have said this is what screening is designed for, to pick up cells BEFORE they become cancerous. I’ve read it’s a simple but highly effective procedure.

Is this your first smear test/abnormal result? I know some people who have had an abnormal result and then when they’ve had a smear 6 months later the abnormal cells have gone.

TrixieTheWhore · 19/02/2020 17:49

I had this in 2010. I had 2 loop diathermy treatments, didn't feel a single thing, and clear smears ever since.

It's so much more common that you'd imagine, I have about 5 friends who have had the same.

Thank fuck for smear tests!

CleanUpWoman · 19/02/2020 18:21

Thank you so much for all your replies. I'm feeling a little less panicked now 😊

It's not my first smear, perhaps the 6th/7th, but it is my first abnormal result.

My appt is in 9 days which I'm so grateful for, not too much time to over think!

The procedure itself I'm a bit worried about tbh. I've had a lot of gynae problems over the past few years, namely a pelvic floor repair that was botched and resulted in emergency surgery.
Had an awful coil insertion/removal experience recently.
Also have a few issues with stirrups, as I was left in them too long when giving birth and a major nerve was severed... So I tend to freeze a little when faced with stirrups...

I'm thinking of asking my gp for a sedative to get me through it. I know my cervix is tilted as I have to put my fists underneath me for every smear etc.

I just want it over as quickly as possible so I wonder if I'd be better off slightly 'relaxed' 😁

I've had CIN3. Had an area of my cervix removed, all clear since. That was 7 yrs ago.

Try not to worry too much
