Pain in lower abdomen - feels like a pulled muscle, but it's not

I'm going to make a GP appointment but it'll be a couple of weeks to wait, so just wondering if anyone has any ideas in the mean time.

I've recently been getting twingy pain in my lower left abdomen - quite far over. It starts up, lasts a few hours to a day (but generally not continuously), then goes - and repeat a few days later. It feels similar to that of a pulled muscle and movement does make it worse, but I've also been getting twinges when sat perfectly still. That, and the fact that I've not been doing anything that would actually strain the muscle, is what makes me think that's not it.

Other information that may or may not be relevant...

  1. I gave birth to twins via c-section nearly 4 months ago
  2. My tummy is looking very bloated - don't know whether that's a symptom, or just due to pregnancy and c-section.
  3. I've had an unusual amount of painful gas lately, but bowel habits are otherwise normal.
  4. I can't say I've noticed any kind of pattern between my symptoms and what I eat.

Diverticular disease?

I know it's a bit of a wait, but the GP will be best placed to answer this.

My first instinct was to say that your C-section cut through some pretty big muscles and they take time to heal.
Not everyone bounces back in 6 weeks and everyone heals at different rates.
I've done a bit of reading and some research in the US suggests that some women experience muscular pain or discomfort 24 weeks after the procedure.

If you able to take it, ibuprofen may help.

Congratulations on your new arrival and I hope you're able to get a good amount of rest.

Thanks for the replies!

Diverticular disease is a good suggestion - I read up on it following your suggestion and although there are some things about it that don't apply to me, a fair bit does, so definitely plausible.

It would be great if it is just to do with recovery from the c-section - and that research gives me hope that it is! I am a bit paranoid about it being something more because this was my second c-section and I had phantom abdominal pain just after the last one too, albeit a different kind and in a different place. That turned out to be gallstones, so part of me is thinking, "Oh gosh, now what?" Whereas if I hadn't had that experience, I might have been more likely to just attribute it to the c-section.

Parasthesia - last for upto 6 months after abdominal surgery. Feels like electric jolt under the skin. Scar tissue formation - again a very common condition (93%) after abdominal surgery.
