Tooth pain....

So went to the emergency dentist Monday after a week of pain, and a weekend of awful pain. She wasn't able to detect the problem 100% even after xRay and tapping my teeth (it just hurt all over one side) but was fairly sure it was one tooth in particular.

She did root canal treatment there and then and put a temp filling in. It didn't take that long so I'm wondering if it really was root canal?! Anyway I have to go back Monday to have it "finished off"

Ever since, it's been sore and I have (mild) shooting pains up into my jaw towards the ear. I'm not sure whether this is as a result of the root canal or whether she hasnt actually addressed the original problem!

Sorry - I know this isn't really an answerable question but I live alone and tend to dwell......and I hate the dentist.....Sad

Do you clench your teeth?

What was the reasoning behind her performing the root canal on that tooth, presumably she could see a shadow under the tooth on the xray?

I've had two root canals and both have been a bit sore after - one never settled and constantly was painful for almost 6 months before I had it extracted last week... The other seems to have settled now crosses fingers

An emergency root canal would have just been killing/drilling the nerve to get you out of pain. The second bit will clean out the tooth, seal it up, then permanently fill it, maybe with a view to crowning it later.
