Looking for experiences - mine is due soon, so wanted to hear about recovery time (2 small children) and what symptoms you had pre op, and how quickly they improved (if at all) post op. I have a loooooong list of symptoms!

Thank you

Hi @Feedmechoc, my husband had one in October last year. Actual operation was fine, unfortunately he developed an infected hematoma at the wound site a few days after so was back in hospital on iv antibiotics for another few days.
Once that all cleared up, all symptoms virtually disappeared overnight, calcium levels back to normal and blood pressure reduced. Scar looks brilliant now, you can hardly see it.
Hope all goes well, feel free to ask anything else !

I answered your other thread but bumping this for you plus a couple of tips.

I had an overnight stay and was off work for 3 weeks. On the whole I was pretty good but did have a bit of a slump about 4 days after. My calcium dropped through the floor and I was very shaky. The doc gave me calcium tablets but I also had some rennies on hand so took some of them. Had a bit of a sore throat too so ate loads of Ice cream (good source of calcium too Grin )

My scar is pretty much invisible now too.

I had a thyroidectomy and lost 3 parathyroids in the process.

The day I got home, my calcium levels plummeted. I went from feeling a little off to barely able to move my own limbs in the span of a couple of hours. Thankfully by the time my arms started contorting I was already outside a&e. Got hooked up to is calcium and felt fine within an hour. Had to stay in the hospital for several days after that, but never had another incident.

It’s about 20 years later and I have to take calcium supplements and synthetic vitamin d every day, but that takes care of it.
